So, FI and I are getting married in March, and are really wanting to TTC as soon as possible.  I realllllly want a baby, and really want to start before the wedding because I have PCOS and I'm nervous about how long it will take to get a BFP.  But I obviously don't want to start too soon because I don't want to be 6 months preg at the wedding.  We were thinking of starting in January... But how long does it normally take for a woman to start "showing".  I'm bigger, 225 and 5'6, and I've heard that bigger girls take longer to start showing.  I know it's different for everyone, but what's your opinions or experiences?

I've heard that most women don't start really showing until around month 4. My coworker is 5' and was already a little thicker in the middle, but at 4 months she has a definite baby bump.

I think it really depends on the woman. My sister is a stick (probably about 5'8", 115 pounds), and she didn't even show with her first until nearly 5-6 months.

At 5'6" 225 I really don't think you would be showing until at least 4 or 5 months.  I think you guys should go for it if that's what works for you.  And if the dress is a little tight alterations can always be done.  I think there is a lot more to think about though than just showing.  What if you suffer from really bad morning sickness?  Do you want to be miserable on your wedding day if you are feeling sick?  Do you want to miss out on drinking at your reception?  Are you sure you don't want some time with your husband to just enjoy each other in your marriage?  As long as you have thought through all these things then I don't think showing at the wedding should stop you from going ahead and TTC.  Good Luck!

Moose, thanks for the great points!  I am not a drinker, so I'm totally fine with skipping that at the reception.  FI and I have been together and lived together awhile, and we are more than ready to start our family.  But, I never thought about the morning sickness thing, so that's definitely a consideration!

I was 24 weeks pregnant and people started to joke with me if they didn't see my ultrasound, they wouldn't even know I was pregnant. I really didn't have a visible curve till I was around 7 months pregnant -- everyone was shocked when my daughter was 7lbs and not 6lbs which is what the doctor was thinking she may be due to my size. Plus its not only the size of the baby itself but your diet, if you have an pregnancy related issues that cause weight gain or weight loss like severe morning sickness -- so many factors can affect your size.

I am a bigger gal. I have two children. My first baby I didn't start showing until about 4 months, even though my clothes were really hard to fit much earlier. My second baby...I was showing by 3 months. I think it really depends on where you carry your weight and how you carry the baby. I know very thin people who have 7 pound babies but they didn't start showing until 6 months and then they just took off! My little sister was like that with her first baby. Now she is preggers again but she started showing pretty early this time.

Also, I understand you want to get started aheady of time. If you get pregnant right away or sooner than you think, you may have some obsticles to overcome with dresses and just being too tired to get everything done. Goodluck and best of wishes.

I'm a very average build and I started showing around 6.5-7 months.  Keep in mind that in your first trimester you might not feel that great.

I thought I would show early because I am on the thinner side, but it took well into the second trimester to show at all.  You most likely wouldn't show at your wedding.  BUT if you are in the first trimester you could feel really fatigued in the months leading up to your wedding - its a fatigue that just overwhlems you and makes it hard to get much done.  If you throw in nausea and vomiting, you might not be super happy on your wedding day.  But if you are ok with that and anxious enough to start, just be prepared :)

Another option is to make sure you know your cycle really well so when you do start TTC you can increase the odds of it happening sooner rather than later...

My friend needed new pants by month 3! But i'd be careful because she was sick up until month 5 and very, very miserable, so i heavily consider the possibilities of being newly pregnant at your wedding.

@ejs4y8: good point! you might not be "showing" but your body could change - my breasts grew the first trimester and a lot of people start putting on some fluid weight (your blood volume goes up 50% during pregnancy!)

This is exactly why I turned to you ladies!  You've all brought up points that, since I've never been pregnant, I haven't even considered.  Like the fatigue, and the fact that even if I don't have a baby bump, I still may have trouble fitting into my dress.

Thank you so much for all your input... keep it coming!

FI and I will have to discuss all of these things, and make sure that we are still ready, now that we are more prepared with more information!

I'm 4 months pregnant, and if you asked me to put on a hot, heavy, constricting gown and stand on my feet for 12 hours...I'd probably punch you!

I am experiencing painful swollen legs and feet, occasional blurred vision, dizziness, and constant thirst followed by constant peeing. I get overheated very easily and constricting waistlines are very uncomfortable. I have been showing since 2 months. I would be very uncomfortable if I had to get through a wedding right now!
