Happy Charting!
@panterapeach: I don't have any questions ATM (my chart is looking pretty normal this month), but thank you for this! I usually scrutinize my chart so, so closely, and it's nice to have a sounding board here :)
Did I remember right that you just started charting? How's it going?
I don't chart BUT I have had lots of questions about it so I'll definitley be watching this thread.
I'm actually kinda scared to just b/c I don't want to get overwhelmed with it... watching days, counting numbers,... with some of the TTC threads it scares me that I'll freak out and get discouraged if "it" doesn't happen right away... sigh
Hopefully by some of the answers I feel better about starting and starting TTC here soon =)
@Quietserenity: I did just start charting this month. honestly, I am so confused with my results. It said I ovulated BEFORE I got a peak on my CBEFM and OPK.
How is that even possible? I think I need a new therm. for next month. I accidently washed it when I did our sheets. (oops)
@amnystik: it takes it to a whole new level of awareness thats for sure. It's honestly not as time consuming as I thought it would be.
No questions yet, but this is a great idea! I just started charting this month and am almost halfway though my cycle. I thought I would share my experience so far though...
I was a little wary of charting to begin with b/c I thought it would take all of the fun out of baby-making. I definitely didn't want to tell my husband about charting b/c I figured he would think it was super un-romantic and not sexy. Well... turns out I was wrong. I showed him my FF chart the other day after he started asking about it, and he got super into it. He likes the graphs and all of the information that you can store. But what he really likes is the column marked "BD". He now sees that column as "his responsibility" on my chart, and he's on a mission to fill up that column with "X"s. This is the first time I've seen him really excited about getting me pregnant. Before this I think he was still pretty freaked out by the idea of becoming a parent... even though he was definitely on board.
I have been charting since last July. I'm no expert but I have good success. Let me know if I can help. Charting is such an empowering experience and taught me so much about my body. I strongly encourage it for TTC
@panterapeach: thank you so much for setting this up! I am glad to have a place to use my charting knowledge, since it sure isn't getting me KU...
@panterapeach: I bought a better thermometere after 1 cycle and it totally made my chart easier to understand. I think the old one was reading funny, and it was super discouraging.
I'm finally starting to hit my stride with charting, I've got 3 full months under my belt now and I'm really starting to understand my body. I also think we did a pretty good job this month of BDing at the right time!
Coolio!
7th month of TTC but first month charting and using OPKs.
How many of you ladies use FF?
@prettylizy: oh that's good to know. I am going to get a new one for next cycle. and congrats on getting your cycle down :)
@regberadaisy: I use FF. I have been using OPK's since Jan but this is my first month charting, using FF and the CBEFM.
I'm a FF user as well, just so that no matter where I am I can log on and dump in my temps and not have to worry about saving them or writing them down.
I'm about 2dpo right now so we'll see what comes of it all in a few weeks. I'm going to visit my BFF who is just 7ish weeks pregnant with her first, so I'm hoping some of her baby dust rubs off and I'll share it all with you ladies!! :P
@prettylizy: FF says I am either 2/3 DPO depending on if you include or exclude a wacky temp. EEEEK testng partner!
With FF, I noticed when my free VIP trial ended that I no longer get the big month view with fertile days and possible ovulations, period days. Is this the case or am I just missing it?
How much is the VIP membership again?
@panterapeach: how long is your LP usually? FF says I should test on July 21 which is 15DPO.
I use FF too... as of this month. How long does the VIP trial last for?
@prettylizy:mine says to test at 19 dpo. From what I read on the site it asks you to test later than normal your first month using it because it is still trying to figure out your LP. I have no idea how long mine really is. I think it's pretty close to 14.
@skibobrown: you can buy different lengths of membership. I got the year membership for 40 bucks.
@panterapeach: Thanks for starting this thread!
I just started charting this month. I am getting some conflicting symptoms. I need to be a little more consistent with the temp thing. I also can't decide if I want to use paper, FF, TCOYF or some other tracker.
Umm...some questions about abbreviations. DPO? CBEFM? BD? I think I can guess what BD is, but what does it stand for?
@Georgia Bee: It is kind of like a different language, isn't it?
DPO is days past ovulation, CBEFM is the Clear Blue Easy Fertility Monitor, and BD is baby dancing (or, if you want to be an adult, having sex).
Here's the list of most of the abbreviations you'll see around here:

I am charting using FF and we got pregnant on my first cycle! I agree with PP, charting isn't as time consuming as I thought it would be. I feel so knowledgeable about my reproductive health and fertility since charting.
This was my first month taking temperatures. WAS, because then I went on a vacation and I started waking up at all different times so I had to get off the charting. And for now, I'm not actually charting, but rather doing it in my head. I'm pretty impressed with the accuracy of the temperature thing. Last month, I started taking my temperature at the end of the month, and it was pretty much the same temp every day, and then one morning it dropped half a Celcius degree, and sure enough I got my period. I think it's so cool.
YAY for all the charters! My chart is finally starting to make sense. It's very cool. I think I'm addicted/obsessed about it. :)
@Georgia Bee: I highly reccomend FF. They have a mobile app too and its so easy use.
I've been charting and using FF since March. First couple of months or so, my temps were all over the place, but the last two months I've actually had some luck. I test on Thursday!!
Thanks so much for setting up this thread!!
I'm on Month 2 of charting with FF, and didn't ovulate on cycle 1 (I have PCOS which is the real reason for charting (to see if I ovulate), not really to get pregnant as we're NTNT) so I'm kinda bummed, but thankful that I have a straight answer at the end of every cycle.
Good luck to all!
So this might be an idiotic question, but I haven't been able to get an straight answer.
We're a few years out from TTC, and so I have Mirena in right now. I love it, and am happy with it, but I recently have been reading up on FAM and was thinking it might be a good idea to start charting around now so that I feel comfortable with it when we are ready to TTC.
Can you even chart with an IUD in? I've read both yes and no. Has anyone ever done it? If so, were you still having regular periods? What about if you're not having regular periods? I don't have periods (spot occasionall for a few days), but I do still get (what I'm pretty sure is) ovulation pains.
Sorry for the dumb questions, but thanks for the help.
@Mrs Sarah McK: Thank you! There were a lot of them I was OK with, but a few really befuddled me. Never would have got the BD...
@amnystik: It seems like it takes a cycle or two to get the hang of it. I really wish I had started doing this a couple months ago. It looks like I am going to need some medical assistance but I know the doctor will tell me to chart for a couple months first,
@SutSip: Mirena doesn't have anything to do with hormones, does it? If you still ovulate, it is worth your while to chart even if it is only for practice or informational purposes.
A general question--can you buy refill sticks for the CB smiley thing or do you have to pay $30 pretty much every month?
Are the expensive fertility monitors worth it or do the smiley face ones do the job?
Great thread idea!
I'm on month 4 of charting (10 of TTC). I was also wary of starting it but I'm kicking myself I didn't start sooner. It makes everything so much easier!
My month is really weird though. I got a peak on CBEFM on Day 20 (EWCM on Day 16). I kept waiting for my temp to jump and it just didn't until today which is 25. It seems too late. I've also been traveling but have still taken my temp at the same time (I set my alarm for 5:40).
I kind of like knowing that my period will start when my temp drops...so much less guess work and I don't need to test unless temp stays high. I haven't taken a test in 4-5 months. Kinda sad, but less stressful than neg test.
I have a question. So I have been using a fertility monitor chart thingy (for lack of better words
) on my android. I keep track of symptoms, AF and when we do the dirty. But what kind of charts do you all use? Are you using pre made charts on a program or something you made yourself?
Sorry for the weird question. I'm still pretty new at this
@Fire: I use the charting program on fertilityfriend.com. I enter my temp and other data (cervical fluid, for example, or when we have sex), and it saves and analyzes it for me.
@Fire: I use FF also--they have a mobile app that my husband has on his droid, so I update from the computer, and if there's something he wants to see, he's able to just check his phone. It's very handy!
Does anyone know if FF has a Blackberry app? I can't seem to find one and I think it would be awesome!
@prettylizy: I don't know of an app for the blackberry, but the FF site adjusts to be mobile friendly when I access from my blackberry. Slower, but pretty easy.
I just started using FF too, we are going to start trying in 2 months so I wanted to get the hang of it and make a habit of the temp taking. Hopefully it works for us fast! Love this thread - thanks!
I have a FF question. I downloaded the app on my phone and set up an account on my computer. I didn't pay for an account. It doesn't seem like I am able to link my data from the phone to the computer. I have been recording my temps on the phone in the morning and then I enter them into my computer later on. I feel like I must be missing something. Can anyone help?
@bradybride: what type of phone (iphone/android).
I have the VIP version but I will try to help.
I decided to use TCOYF online charting because for some reason I didn't like how FF worked. I don't remember why. Even if you don't chart here, check out the chart galleries. They are organized by all kinds of different issues like "low progesterone" "35+" "on clomid" etc. I like comparing mine to others!
