All of the above.  I actually got a positive a couple days before my missed period but it was so faint (I had taken apart the test to look at it) and the next one looked negative so I figured it was a no go.  So then I stopped testing for awhile since then I started getting cramps and figured monthly visitor was right around the corner.  I probably didn’t test again for another week or week and a half when I was tired and cramping and still no period and by that point it was a pretty clear positive.

I just finished cycle 4 and since I tend to be irregular we kinda decided early on that we will NOT test unless my period was  a couple days to a week late.

We haven’t gotten that far yet so have not done a single HPT test. Sigh.

I think seeing the negative or no or whatever signage is given would be even more disheartening than getting my period. 🙁

I’m in the TWW of cycle 7, and I usually have the will power not to test until a day or two before my expected period. It’s hard though, b/c since I’ve gone off the pill, I’ve had super long cycles. I’m talking like 40-45 days. So it’s really hard to keep waiting to take that test, and of course you get anxious! But it’s disappointing after every negative, so I do my best not to do that to myself too much.

I also base it off of if I’m feeling “symptoms” or not. The last time around, my breasts felt sore, and I started to get excited. Turns out it was just b/c Aunt Flo was arriving. So I try to do my best not to test too early…b/c like regberadaisy is right…the negative HPT is worse than getting my period sometimes.

I tested the day I thought my period was due.  I had only been off the pill a few months and my cycle hadn’t regulated yet.  I was charting and it was 16 dpo, so I thought I might as well.

Honestly, I’m cheap and I just didn’t want to spend the money on a test if I didn’t have to!  But I know a lot of girls get their tests at the dollar store, so you can always stock up.  🙂

I got mine at the dollar store.  I never had a positive with the fancier kind (I know not their fault cause I wasn’t pregnant yet).  But as soon as I started using the dollar store tests lots of positives (because I kept testing for a couple weeks, basically until I had an ultrasound and saw the heartbeat)….so I’m a fan.

We decided early on to wait until after I missed my period, primarily because I know some people have very early miscarriages and I figured I would rather not know if that was the case.  But also because I didn’t want to be overly stressed and worried about it as I do believe that (in people with no fertility problems) stress can contribute to it all taking longer…..that said I tested early (3 days before AF was due) just once since we were throwing a party and I got a big fat negative…..it was about 6 days later when I realized AF never came and I tested again (at night) to a big ol positive!! (3-4 days after my missed period)

When we were trying a while back the first 3 months i would test about 3 days before my actual period was due. After a while i got sick of spending money on tests so i waited until my period came and if it was a few days late than i would buy a test.

Other– If we’re ignoring my temperatures and the fact that I chart, I took the test a week before my period was due. If we’re going by when my period was truly due (and I knew that by tracking my temp and seeing that I ovulated 5 days earlier than usual bc of stress), then I took the test 10 days post ovulation, 1 day before my period was actually due. I got a faint pink line, retested the next day with a digital one.

I tested super early but positive didn’t come up until I was 5+ days late! so keep in mind that even if you get a negative, it’s possible to have it come up positive later 🙂

    Same as @lilsneakers here

I tested early, twice, and both came up negative. Then my period didn’t show up and after four days late, I tested again and got my positive result. It was late at night, so I tested again first thing the next morning and it was still positive.
