I'm a Tucson bride! We haven't decided on a date yet, but already have a photographer, videographer and location in mind.
Yay! Another bride! Okay, Macuna who are the vendors you are considering?
I am having Chris Richards as my photographer (he did Mrs Lovebugs wedding...um Mrs LB...we are STILL waiting on photos!). No videographer for us and Location: Z MAnsion downtown. We get married in OCtober.
Cool! I know for sure I want Michael Chansley as my photographer. He has a videographer that works with him that is located in Utah, but is very talented and shoots in HD. His name is Gerry Ruiz.
The place I REALLY want to get married is the Tanque Verde Guest Ranch way out on the east side. I think it would be really cool!
How long have you been waiting on photos LB? I've heard from other brides that Michael Chansley gets back photos fast. I'm not getting any prints other than possibly a canvas print. The images are going to be on a CD which I can just take to Jones Photo or somewhere and get prints done cheap.
We still haven't decided on a date yet. Thinking maybe September 2009.
We looked at the Tanque Verde guest rance, it is beautiful. We really considered having it there.
I think Chris Ricahrds is really fast on wedding photos. I know he got some back to Mrs LB the day after the wedding..now we are just waiting on her to post! :)
Hey guys! I'm psyched we have a Tucson board! OK, here's the scoop on the photos. Chris put the full set on Pictage a few weeks ago (for ordering prints, albums, etc.), but they've got his copyright on them, so I can't post from those.
We just went over to his house on Sunday, had some drinks, and started picking out our favorites and talking about albums, proofs, files, and all that good stuff. He's actually giving us the files since we're ordering a few different albums, and he dropped them in the mail Monday or yesterday, so they should be here, like, any second. Believe me, I'm dying to post them. They're pretty awesome, and Chris was talking about submitting them to Tucson Lifestyles Magazine.
In the meantime, I need to post a vendor review (specifically, because I want to warn any Tucson brides against Maribelle).
Yay! I'm so excited to hear about Tucson weddings! Definitely going to keep an eye on this board.
YEAH TUCSON!! I am getting married at the Stillwell House downtown in October and I cant wait. Congrats to all you Tucson brides!
I'm a Tucson bride! We are geting married August 15th (a summer wedding in the desert, long story!) at my church and our reception is at Hotel Congress!

So glad we have a local board!
I'm a Tucson bride too!! We are getting married May 23, 2009 at Westward Look Resort! I was happy for Mrs. Lovebug but sad to lose her posts after she was married!
To answer your question Macuna, we are using Complete Music DJ Services - http://www.cmtucson.com/. The owner is named Jason and he is sooo awesome! He works with our Wedding Coordinator (Anne Bryan of Creative Events) a lot so there is a good working relationship.
Lovebug's recent vendor review was really helpful and we hired Ambrosia of Tucson based on her recommendation from her blog about Janie months ago. I have also heard that Maribelle Cakery is NOT a good vendor to use so everyone out there beware. When my FI, mother and I went and tried Busy Bee Bakery, the cake itself was good but we found the owner to be very chilly and pushy.
Congrats to all Tucson brides!
We are using Andy from Satyr Entertainment. His rates are very reasonable, and I like that he has no time limits. He was the DJ at our friends' wedding, and he did a great job.
I am using Kim with Windy City DJ's. He works with Stillwell House a lot and knew the place really well and was also very highly recommended by Candace Flores, the owner of Stillwell. I am doing all the planning long distance from Baltimore, so I am relying heavily on her judgements, but I think he will do a great job. I did not meet with Maribelle, but I did do a tasting with Busy Bee. I thought the cakes were really good, just not what I was looking for when it came to my wedding cake. I think I am going to go with Village Bakehouse. I was really impressed with Paulette there. She too came very highly recommended to me.
I am using Che from AA Djs as my DJ, he did a friend of mine's wedding a few years ago and he was outstanding. But we met with Satyr too and loved their work!
Courtney let us local girls know if we can help with any long distnace planning! :) And Village Bakehouse has some yummy sandwiches too!
Hey guys! Anyone wanna be quoted in Tucson Bridal Magazine? I'm writing an article about engagement rings (and how couples chose them) - if you'd like to help me out (by giving a short explanation of how you decided on your ring), I'd be most appreciative!
You can reach me at grumpgirl@gmail.com
Gracias, amigas!
I'm also having ours at the Stillwell in November - and doing most of the planning from the Bay Area. We are playing with the idea of hooking up an ipod for music and having a friend MC...any thoughts on that? Working with a pretty tight budget. Out of curiosity, how much does Windy City charge?
Jnowicki-- I had my wedding at Stillwell in April and I would make sure that you get very clear with them on their ability to support your plan for music. Originally they told me we could do an ipod, but did not mention until our final appointment 5 days before the wedding that they have no speakers outdoors and usually rely on DJs for ceremony amplification (if you're having your ceremony there as well this will be an issue). We had a friend play some of his compositions on their piano during dinner in the house and had a band after dinner in the cantina and that worked out very well.
Hi!
I'm a Tucson bride getting married in Oct (oh my god seemed like a year ago yesterday.) I'm using Desert DJ's as they were highly recommended by my coordinater and site but I think they are too pricey would probably shop around next time... they got me with a this guy is so good oh well first time. They do have a really good interactive web site.
Just wanted to share with locals brides because my wedding feels like it is sooo far away right now (May 23, 2009) and planning has been slow lately but....I ordered my Save the Dates today!!!
SQEEEEE!!
My FI likes them but he is being a guy and not getting how excited I am right now!!! Jane from Three Hills Press Designs right here in Tucson is A M A Z I N G and my invitation suite that she created for me is gorgeous. She interpreted my pink Garden Glam theme into a lovely, sophisticated but definately PINK garden design. I shall refrain from shouting from the rooftops because in the scheme of things its not a huge deal but I feel better telling you here!
How could I have missed this board for so long? Hello and congrats all! Happy to have found you, and look forward to all the recommendations and advice you have, as I'm planning our April 18th, 2009 do from super-loooooooooong distance!
Hello! I'm getting married at the Z Mansion, I am also having AA DJs as well as WilsonHenry Photography. They work as a team and are absolutely amazing and very personable. The photography I've seen on their website is so beautiful and unique. I'm excited to work with them. The Z mansion offers packages that includes just about everything and that really helped me being that I'm planning this wedding from Florida! It's so cool to see other brides from Tucson on here! Our wedding is just about 4 months away! So as you can imagine, it's crunch time and I'm going nuts!!! Can't wait to see my FH at the end of the aisle though!
I am also a Tucson bride planning from a long-distance. So far, we haven't picked florist or bakery - but I'm leaning toward the Village Bake House or Ambrosia. I appreciate Mrs. LB's comments. We are planning to be wed at Reflections at the Buttes in November - they have some very affordable package rates and I've heard good things about them from friends. Has anyone attended a function there?
StevesDeb--I went to the Buttes for a friends wedding. It's beautiful. You'll get some very nice picture there. Have you seen it in person? When is your wedding? Usually in the spring/summer time the grass is greener so it will look very nice.
Yes, we have visited and really loved the location, the owners and staff. In fact, we have placed our deposit and will be signing our contract in the next week or so. We are going to be married in November.
Recently, I've seen some mixed (i.e. Awesome to Awful) reviews about the food, beverage and DJ services. I think the awful may be sniping rather than constructive reviews though so I was hoping to get a confirmation of the AWESOME from someone other than my soon to be brother-in-law and best friend.
How did you like the food, beverage, DJ and staff?
How is everyone's planning going? We just signed the contract for the photographer and are finalizing menus for our May 2009 wedding. The only really big things I have left are flowers (any suggestions?) and music.
So I've been to 3 Tucson weddings in the past year and here are some vendors that I really liked and am booking some of them for my wedding in September.
DJ - DJ Warren, Ray the DJ (came from Phoenix)
Photography - Michael Chansley Photography
String Quartet - Canyon Quartet
Venues - Reflections at the Buttes, Westin La Paloma, Tanque Verde Guest Ranch
Flowers - Evergreen
Cake - Cake Boutique
Hi Everyone,
I am getting married in Tucson on 9/26. So far I have booked location (Hacienda del Sol), Photographer (Spencer Boerup--who is awesome!) and cake (Busy B). I have not yet decided on any music. I think that we might go the ipod route, and get a professional to emcee..but for the ceremony and cocktail hour, I would love to have a live guitar player. Any suggestions?
@suzietu: Floral Art by Rachel! http://www.floralartbyrachel.com/ She's been incredible to work with and I have the highest confidence in her!
As for us- we just submitted all the addresses etc. to our printer today! I enjoyed gathering and organizing all the info (I'm a liiiiittle bit neurotic), but it was an even bigger task than I'd realized it would be. Glad to have it out of the way!
It's on to picking ceremony/reception music, rehearsal dinner location (suggestions anyone? Trying to keep it around $30/person before alcohol!), and loosing a pound or five before my first dress fitting in a month!
Thanks Carrietly! I will check her out! We have now found a brass quintet for the ceremony & cocktail hour, and I've scheduled a makeup/hair trial in two weeks (fingers crossed!). What type of food are you thinking for the rehearsal dinner? Any particular area of town? One place we've considered is a mexican place downtown called Poca Cosa which has a private room area and is really good. It averages about mid-20s per person and of course has great margaritas.
No problem suzietu! Definately make an appointment with Rachel, to talk to her and look through her albums of previous work. I'm really glad I stumbled on her- I was getting really discouraged and then I saw her work on the cover of Tucson Bride. She's a great listener and very mindful of your budget.
Thanks for the Poca Cosa recommendation- I'd thought of that as well, the only problem is I wanted to do a set menu (half of the people there wont speak English, and I was trying to keep it simple) and Poca Cosa changes their menu on a daily basis. Originally I wasn't thinking Mexican (i.e. Tucson-style Mexican, deep fried chimis etc.), as it'll be the first time a lot of people there will have tried it, and I was a little worried, being the day before the wedding... we don't need any adverse effects (does that sound logical, or am I worrying too much?)! Poca Cosa would have been great as her stuff is quite different than most Tucson Mexican restaurants... if you come up with any other ideas, please let me know! Thanks!
P.S. With who/where are you doing your hair trial? I'd love to hear how it goes!
I'm a wannabee Tucson bride. You guys are so lucky with your gorgeous southwestern backdrops!!!
Hi carrieitly: I just had my makeup/hair trial today...it was terrible. Her name was Rachel - if you want the full story go ahead and send me a message...I don't want to write a lot of negative stuff on the boards. Anyway, I don't think I'm going to book her, though I did have to pay for the trial so that's money out the window. I think next weekend I may try going to Blue Mercury in La Encantada...they did my sister in law's makeup when she visted (just for fun) and she looked gorgeous! At this point, I'd settle for NOT looking like a drag queen:) I'll update after I check there.
I am in Southwest Arizona in Yuma ... can't get much more south & west and still be in Arizona LOL
I'm a Tucson bride!
Though I love the Tucson surroundings and the fact that we experience mild winters (lucky, since my wedding is January 1st!), its one of the more difficult states to plan a big Indian wedding in as many of the Indian vendors are located in other states.
To offset the cost of bringing Indian vendors to Tucson, I think I'll stick to Tucson vendors for things such as make-up/hair, photography/videography, dj, lighting, etc.
Anyone here have any recommendations for hair/make-up artists?
I've been looking at Couture Make-up http://www.couturemakeup.com/
She serves Phoenix and Tucson, has anyone used her before?
Hi Everyone!
I am trying to plan a wedding out of state! Difficult for sure. I have plenty of time but I like to have things done fairly early, but I sorta need some venue ideas.
I have looked on every website that caters to Tucson weddings, but I am looking for a more INTIMATE location for a very SMALL wedding and of course rock'n reception, that may not be listed on any websites.
Any Suggestions?!?!
@arizonabride
We probably will have about 30-40 people. I prefer outside, since October is perfect in Tuc.
@az_apes Does it have to be in Tucson? I don't know that area that well, but Sedona has lots of great small venues.
I just had to chime in here - I'm a Tucson bride! Originally our wedding was going to be Las Vegas destination wedding, but we decided to keep it close to home after the budget began to sprial to lofty and grand heights. ;) (Not that it couldn't have been done, but still, it's a bit ridiculous all things considered!)
My wedding is booked at St. Pedro chapel on 10/15/2011 and the reception is going to be held at Anthony's in the Catalinas. (We know Anthony, so we get the whole restaurant for the night and his staff and kitchen will do all of the food.) It's going to be SO DELICIOUS.
After party will likely either be the Arizona Inn or the Lodge in the Desert.
I've reserved Sergio the Photographer and his badass photography for the day - seriously, if you're undecided on photographers CHECK HIM OUT.
I think I'm going to go with Sarah Sanmarco for professional makeup.
Cakes...haven't decided - any suggestions? Same with flowers/decorations/transportation, etc. We're having transportation for EVERYONE so I'll have to research it.
Also, I want to walk down the aisle to the Zelda theme, so I'll probably need a good band/string quartet??? IDEK.
I'm excited bees - we should do a wedding meet up or something!!
