So my FI wants a Tungsten ring, mainly because he really likes the color. I’ve heard that they’re dangerous, since they can’t be cut off. Is there anything else, like a finish on a different metal that will get the same "gunmetal" color that he’s after? Thanks!

They’re not dangerous, per se. If your finger ever swells up and you need to get it off, but can’t, then you just take a pair of pliers and it crumbles. Most legitimate tungsten rings come with lifetime replacement guarantee too. I would suggest titanium, but it can be prone to bending.

My husband’s wedding band is palladium. I don’t quite remember the whole sales pitch, but our jeweler did say that if his finger swelled, the ring could be cut like any other ring. His ring isn’t quite the gun metal color you’re looking for, but it’s pretty dark and in a matte finish.

Tungsten rings can be removed with a simple pair of vice grips in emergency situations. Most often, jewelers tell you this to upsell you to a more expensive metal.
