I think it's common for the groom to look different. Usually it's seen with a different color vest or tie, but I don't see why it couldn't be a different jacket if that's what he wants.
i just read about this last nite on The Knot! :)
It depends on the formality of your ceremony. If your ceremony is Ultra FORMAL, then they should be in the same outfit....but if its semi-formal, you could get away with different jackets. let him have the mandarin collar and the other guys wear the style you prefer.
you could also have your groom wear different color vest/tie combo as well as allow him to wear a different blossom than the others.
If you really want to be "traditional", then back in the days before tuxes were available for rent, all the members of a bridal party wore their own tuxes. So technically none of them matched at all! I think it's totally fine for them not to match.

Ladies,
I need to know if my FI can wear a different "style" tuxedo than his groomsmen. He wants to wear a mandarin collar, but I think I want the groomsmen (3) plus my brother (my escort) in shawl or notch-collar style or traditional tuxedos.
What do you think?
Thanks!
