I think a lot of times the groom's tux is free if there are enough men in the wedding party (at least that's what happening in our case)...I believe that our tuxes ended up being about $125 with taxes, etc.
My fiance's tux was free with the rentals of all the other tuxes. The tuxes were $104 plus tax with all the accesories.
My FI's will also be free and we went hrough Savvii Formalwear - the GM's will be renting for $127, including all the accesories, cuff links, tie, vest socks (which are theirs to keep) heming and such, button covers, and shoes.
We went through MW Tux's before Savvii (which is the Mens Wearhouse/Knights formalwear company that joined up not to long ago) But they had nothing for FI to try on (2 sizes 2 small or 2 sizes to big) claiming that they really don't ever have people wanting to try things on, and he was uncomfortable with what he settled for, and the price it was going to be, not really knowing what it would look like.
For what he chose, which was a designer suit over the standard Savvii brand - the price was really good.
ours are $150, not including shoes ($25). we are planning on skipping the rental shirt, tie & vest (saves us $25) and having the guys buy a nice shirt (~$30 after bulk discounts) in our colors from express. FI is going to buy them matching ties (~$45). so in the end, our guys will be in anywhere from $155- $180 if they don't have shoes. the reason our price is higher than usual is because we are doing brown tuxes, & they do not give a groom discount on that tux. we are also renting from an independant shop in center city philly so that adds a bit of cost (altho there are benefits from renting from this store, incluidng no late return fee or set return time, they will pick up the tux from any location in the city for you free, they have tailors in the store & can fix anything in an hour or less. plus it's really easy for out of town groomsmen to get their sizes & we can reserve the tuxes months in advance.)
From experience --- I'll have to agree with the people above -- 150-250 should get you dressed up very nicely :)
