We were boring and used Men's Warehouse (easy for out of town groomsmen to get measured and pick up tux before arrival in Philly in case alterations needed). We also used a bridal show discount.
I'm not in that area but we're also probably going to use Mens Wearhouse as they have a nice grey suit by Vera Wang there. I haven't been very impressed with other grey suits I've seen so far.
@Westwood: I did not know about the new Vera Wang Black collection! This is exciting; hopefully they will add a few grey suits/tuxes to the options! Hopefully "late spring 2012" isn't too late for August wedding.
@Westwood: I signed up for the notifications on the collection, but curious where you were able to see the suits in the collection? If you can share any links/photos, would be much appreciated!
I called up my local Men's Wearhouse and told them I was interested in finding out more about the VW Black Collection. I was SO excited to find out about this new addition -- especially since we wanted grey suits and the only grey tux they rent is a much lighter grey. @Westwood I wonder if the suit you saw was part of the new collection? My store hasn't gotten any samples yet so I don't know specifics of what the suits look like. I heard they were very Mad Men.
I was told by my local MW that it's a dark grey, modern fit tux, with black satin trim on the lapel, and flat front pants. They said the black tux will be out in time for April events, and the grey would be available for July events. BUT, you won't likely be able to see it in person if you have a wedding in July/August, just based on the photos. I ended up finding a beautiful grey tux (with suited vest!) at a local store in Drexel Hill (Saget's). It is part of the Sarno & Sons portfolio (Jean Yves tux in steel grey) so if you have a local shop that sells out of the Sarno portfolio, I recommend it!
Did you check out Joseph A. Bank? That is where we got our tuxes (i'm in cherry hill, but i know there are stores all over philly area) and they had a TON of choices. I had multiple friends who had bad experiences with Men's Wearhouse.
We're doing Jos A. Bank and they had a LOT of suit options as well. All the men will get a % off coupon the day they get sized (great for work clothes or if you're having them buy any of their accessories - shirt, tie, etc).
Also, depending on your wedding party size, you might even be able to get one rental for free.
A couple of people have mentioned Jos A Bank to me. I'm thinkng I should call them up and speak to them and get some details. We have seven on each side, so it would be nice if we could get my guy's rental for free!
@tini: I went on Saget's website and that charcoal grey tux you were talking about is what I'm looking for! I was originally thinking of having the GM buy a suit since I figured it wouldn't be that much more to than renting and they could keep it for other occassions, but there seems to be a bit of resistence to the idea from the guys.
At any rate, would you mind commenting on how much it was to rent from there? Did you have the option of a tie instead of bowtie? Were there any other stores that you found that carried this color tux?
I'm so relieved to find someone else in the Philly area also looking for grey suites/tuxes!
Thanks!
