Holy Cow, can you believe Kim Kardashian's engagement ring??? That this is HUGE. And you know it has to be a perfect diamond, since it's ENORMOUS and an emerald cut. Having a ring THAT large looses it's beauty, I think, because it just looks like costume jewlery!! If I could have any size in the world, I would want 3 karats, no more.
What are your thoughts, bees?
I definitely think there is such thing as TOO big. I think it cheapens the look of the diamond when it's that big...
Just my opinion :)
It's actually a 16.5 carat center with 2 carat side stones.
*cough* .... Not that I'm obsessed with the Kardashians or anything...
DH thoughts were - "She probably bought it herself"
I think getting it that big will never hold it's value in "look".. it does make me think about the style of the "big rings" right now and that in a few years it will look out dated like the big ring fad.
I saw always go for a classic look over a "WOW" look
@Gingersnap: haha you're right...16.5 flanked by two 2 karats! Sorry for the typo! :-)
I think it's gorgeous and I love it. More importantly however is that she loves it and that it fits her lifestyle and her image. She says in the caption that it's the perfect ring for her. So that's all that matters.
If I could have any diamond, I'd want a three or four-carat canary yellow one. Or a green diamond, come to think of it...
I agree, though--once you're past a certain size, it just looks like costume jewelry. It looks nice on her hand, though!
its not ridiculous but its not to my taste either - i tried a 5ct solitare a few months ago and that was way too big so this would not suit my lifestyle either
@tuscanbride: Hahaha no biggie :) I've been reading all about this all day, it's engrained into my brain now.
It does look like costume jewelry. I'm pretty sure you can buy this exact same thing at Claire's. LOL
I said on another thread that I like the style (i.e. the design and how it sits, etc) but the size simply makes me wrinkle my nose and go "What are you trying to prove?" But hey. To each her own...ginormous rock....
@Gingersnap: I should totally buy one at Claire's and wear it around. "What? It's TOTALLY real!" ;)
I greatly dislike it and either she bought it, or he's like every other basketballer who made a couple million signing with a team, then spends it all not realizing how fleeting a career in the NBA is for most of them. They make them take money management courses now because so many of them blow all their money and end up broke when they no longer play. Looks like he's not much different.
I think it's beautiful, but I also think it looks like costume jewelry. I'm sure up close in person though is a different story.
This may be a bit of a debbie downer, but I'm getting really really REALLY sick of celebs and their decadence. Normally I'm like "Meh, whatever. The have $$$. That's how it goes." But lately it's just been making me disgusted when I see things like this. It's just like, the world is going to hell in a hand basket while dime-a-dozen celebs (with money) are laughing away and living it up. It very much reminds me of certain biblical stories. Celebs are no longer an elite class (much like they were in the 50's), in my opinion, and the whole group is just really getting on my nerves.
End rant and I'm sorry. :)
@ohheavenlyday: I'm willing to bet she bought it herself. Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course.
@Tunacupcakes: Yes, I agree. My mom is a elem school teacher, and I see how hard she works day in and day out, not to mention my community which is surrounded by all of these hard working people that are actually bettering the future, and impacting lives on a daily basis. Police officers, firefighters, etc etc. Public servants who are making a sizeable contribution, and who's pay and benefits are being stripped little by little, for what?! It's very sad. And this is coming from someone who is in the entertainment industry herself. I believe in the power and importance of the arts, and am a huge advocate for dance, opera, music, theater, however, this mega-stardom with movie stars and athletes is definintely out of control, and has been blown out of proportion, especially when there are so many people across America working so hard in all types of fields, who aren't being compensated even remotely for what their contributions are worth.
My rant :-)
Back to big, shiny things. haha
Of course, by sharing the pictures with People, they probably got a few hundred thousand dollars at least to offset the cost. BLAH KARDASHIANS.
People like her wouldn't be famous if people like us didn't play into it. Do you really think that People magazine would pay for her story if she wasn't so famous? She's famous because we watch her shows, buy her perfumes, read her books, whatever.
If she likes it I love it! It fits her life and that's all that matters.
I personally don't care for it (I love Khloe's ring!).
It's a lot of money for something that looks like a piece of costume jewelry but I guess she earned it, right? I have been told that making sex tapes and strutting around like a peacock is hard work.
I'm so sorry, but that's hideous. To me, it's just too big to be pretty. If it were smaller, however, I'd be all over it, I love emerald cuts.
@Ms. Sea Lion: I LOVE Emerald cuts too!! :-) Even though I love my cushion, I sometimes wish I had an emerald cut.
Ewwww.. That ring is hideous. That diamond is so huge it has lost all of its sparkle, thereby cheapening the whole look. All I think when I see a ring like that is trashy, trashy, trashy. It may or may not be true but when I see flaunting of money to that extent, I immediately think the relationship is all about the superficial and I give the marriage 2 years tops. Sorry, I know I'm making sweeping judgments here but that ring is UGLY!
I think while the ring isn't something I'd look for, that if she likes it and thinks it's the most beautiful ring, then we shouldn't go around bashing it.
@MissCherryLemonade: Amen. If you don't like it fine but why does the bashing have to get so personal. Smh...
Im a little confused. This looks exactly like the ring she bought when she was dating Reggie when she wanted him to propose. Is it the same one? or does it just look similar?

@tinkerbee: Good find! It certainly does look like the same ring. Did she actually buy it back when she was dating the other guy or did she just shop for it?
@Tunacupcakes: WORD UP!! I agree with everything you said. It's sickening to see this kind of unnecessary decadence when so many people are struggling to PAY RENT! But then again, to each his/her own. Personally, it looks fake to me.
Why are people getting so mad about this ring? I don't think any of us would turn down a 20+ carat diamond, come on now!
@KatyElle: Exactly! And why does it have to be so personal? To quote Jay-Z
You not feeling her (and her ring)? Fine. It costs you nothing pay it no mind. I think people can state their opinion on something without getting so nasty.
@katyelle: I would! No way in the world would I wear something like that! I know everyone has differing tastes and to each their own, but I'm just saying I would most definitely turn down a 20 carat diamond. As others have said, it's pure decadence and with so many people in the world unable to afford basic necessities, decadence to that degree irks me to no end. Like I said though, to each their own.
@Ree723: nevermind. I dont want to threadjack. Carry on folks.
@tuscanbride: I totally agree with your whole "rant" :) Well said!
As for Kim's ring -- gaudy and looks fake at that size. I tried on a 5 ct and THAT looked fake to me. Sure, it was super sparkly, but all I could think was, "this looks like costume jewelry."
@Ree723: Yes, god forbid a celebrity with too much money throw it back into the suffering economy!
People, we WANT people with money to spend it! Not spending money does not improve the overall economy.
I don't like it, but it's probably just because I can't stand the Kardashian's.
Too big. It looks fake like a cocktail ring (plus I'm not a fan of emerald cuts).
I think a large stone with beautiful detail work would have been a better choice.
