Oohhhh...I have no experience but I can definitely see how that might end badly. Are your envelopes Lettra too?
Yep. It's one big Lettra party. We have an A7.5 outer and A7 inner, but I don't know if that will help at all.
I just can't find something that makes me happy in the keeping-it-all-bound-together department.
I would play it safe and keep the twine out of the picture.
What about a vellum belly band?
What about using flat ribbon instead of twine? Or, you could put a full invite together using twine, mail it to yourself, and then you'd know the condition it would be in after roughing the mail system.
I have received an invite that came with a thin (eighth inch thick maybe?) foam pad on the top to avoid just that.
It makes your envelope HUGE though.
I know what I'd do. I'd call both my stationer and pay a visit to my local post office to get everybodys' .02 worth of advice on that issue. You def don't want them dented up.
Go check with the post office. I tried to do wax stamps and they threw a hissy fit about it, saying that because they weren't "completely flush", it would cost an extra $1.50 or something ot mail them. The twine may do that! I've tried to mail, like, a teabag inside envelopes and it gets rejected unless I do a padded one. =\
Ack, thanks for the advice, you guys. I might (read: think I will) go a different non-twine way. I don't want the extra stressy hassle. :p
I did a belly band around Lettra invites and that dented the envelopes a little... but I didn't care, they're only envelopes! The invite itself was fine...
Just do a mock-up and send it to yourself if you're unsure of anything. I felt waaaay better after receiving one I'd sent to myself; then I knew without a doubt that I had the right postage, etc.
Yeah, I heard the same thing about extra postage now is applied if there is any sort of bump because the invite can't slide through the machines as well. Don't want to mail them off and your guests be charged for the extra postage :(

I'm considering throwing some twine (baker's, carpet, or hemp) around our suite to hold everything together. Problem is that our invites are Lettra (mmm), and I was worried that it might dent the heck out of it when it goes through the mail. Also, I was thinking of having stuff dangle, but isn't that another dent waiting to happen?
So yes, an experience out there with twine denting stuff, especially Lettra?
