My doctor always sends my sample off for a culture because she wants to make sure it’s not something else. I can’t remember the name of it though. Hopefully the sample will come back with a better understanding of what’s wrong. Urgent Care scares me sometimes with their diagnosis… I’m glad they sent it off. Hopefully it wasn’t the wrong sample though.

I’ve had UTIs go away on their own before, not sure how they heal them selves but I’m glad to not have to take an antibiotic if I don’t have to.

I’m not sure if you know – but a lot of times UTI’s are caused from sex (bacteria being pushed into the urethra during sex). The best way to prevent this is to pee immediately after intercourse – no exceptions.

I used to get them all the time, was sent to a urologist, only to find this out (duh, felt pretty stupid).

Also, if you do have that feeling of one coming on, you can drink large amounts of cranberry juice and it flushes your system out. Some people say this isn’t true, but I’ve done it before with lots of success. The downside is that drinking the juice could give you loose stools – but for me, it’s worth it to avoid having to get antibiotics for the UTI.

Instead of drinking cranberry juice, I take cranberry concentrate capsules. I take these daily and do not get UTIs anymore. (I used to get infections of the kideny, not normal UTIs)

I specifically take the Gaia brand ones. The bottle says to take two a day, but I only take one. If I feel my kidney is feeling not-so-good I might take two that day.

I hate uti’s they suck. I kept getting them all the time last year. Now after sex, I pee then drink a ton of water and take cranberry pills. I’ve even had uti’s without the whole annoying feeling but I still get the annoying uti feeling sometimes but no uti. My doctor thinks it could be interstitial cystisis so maybe you could have them check for that too just to make sure.

Apple Cake: think maybe you are getting too full especially when sleeping. Could be worth trying to go shortly after peeing maybe when very full its not emptying fully but going again shortly after you maybe able to complete the job

I used to get a lot of UTIs(once so bad I had to go to the ER because it was spreading to my kidneys and causingawful back pain!), but now I haven’t had one for about 1.5 years. I do all of the stuff that doctors say to do religiously, but ultimately what stopped them was D-mannose. It is a power that contains the sugar found in cranberries. I just take 1 teaspoon a day in a glass of water. It has been a miracle worker.

Also, if you are getting frequent UTIs, it might be worth it to work it out with your primary to get antibotics without needing to go to the ER (which could become expensive). When I got UTIs, I never tested positive. So when I knew I had one, I would call my primary and he would call in antibiotics. I was very careful not to overuse them, but I have a bladder pain disorder so for me it is pretty obvious when I have a UTI because the pain of a UTI is exacerbated. It helped me not have to waste time getting tested.
