I’m not pregnant with twins but have a couple twin moms around me. Have you gone for your bloodwork then? If you are carrying twins your levels are usually higher than normal so they will perform and ultrasound then. Good luck and congratulations!

@mrshersch74: As far as the twins running on both sides it really only matters if it runs on your side and still your chances of having twins are slim. At my 12 week appt the doctor checked for twins with the doppler because twins are very common in my family but we only have 1 LO in there. Don’t worry yourself your chances of actually having twins are pretty low unless you yourself are a twin. Your husbands history has nothing to do with it.

First – congrats! And breathe. 🙂
I am pregnant with twin boys. I was really bloated in the beginning, but I have IBS so we weren’t sure if that was because of the high levels of hormones or from the IBS. I was also very VERY sick. My morning sickness was unbearable and I ended up having to get IV fluids a few times.
So as for being able to tell by the belly – not in the early stages, at least for me. I started showing much earlier than most, but I’m 5’1″ and have no torso, so these babies have no where to go! Also, in reference to what Roxy821 said – my HCG levels in the beginning were within the normal ranges. They only started going high around the 10-12 week mark.
I found out about our twins at our 8.5 week ultrasound. I had asked for a “dating” ultrasound so I could see my baby… and got the surprise of my life! We don’t have twins on either side of our family, and our babies were conceived spontaneously.
How far along are you?

Honestly there is no way to tell without an ultrasound. Some women have much more intense symptoms, like Shimmer. I’m having twins, and had a comparatively easy first tri. Never threw up and only had minor bloating. Didn’t really start showing until 12+ weeks. My hcg bloodwork always came back on the high side of normal early on though, so that gave us a ‘maybe’ from the beginning. Good luck however it shakes out for you 🙂

My twins were found on ultrasound. I had nothing to compare it to since this was my first pregnancy. The only for sure thing is an ultrasound.

Our twins were found on our second ultrasound! My symptoms have been pretty mild compared to most but my hcg levels were through the roof! As in 52000 when normal/average was up to 10000.
