The only thing that I do with my pits right now is shaving. I have waxed before but I can't stand the growing out faze. I feel completely gross and damp and hairy the entire time and to me, it's just not worth it. I don't have much of a dampness problem usually but I do have smelly sweat and the new Secret Flawless Renewal works well for me.
Definitely invest in a "prescription strength" deodorant. There are several brands on the market. Dove is good. Try it at least a week in advance in case you have a reaction to it. I used to use Mitchum, but this is MUCH more effective with dampness and odor. Well worth the much higher price tag.
Thanks ladies! I'm a little scared to try waxing, haha, but I may just have to do it. I'll give the Dove stuff a try, too.
Friendly FYI - - I am a huge wax/sugar fan. I have been getting Brazilian's for years - I had my armpits done ONCE because the pain was super intense. If you get them waxed and/or sugared please please please take advil/ibprofin 30 min before....
I know it's going to sting like crazy, but I'm totally waxing before the wedding! Going to do a trial of course a couple of months ahead to make sure I don't react weirdly...
I use the new style of the prescription strength kind and I SWEAR by it. Degree Clinical Protection in Classic Romance smells nice and doesn't overpower.
I've been using the clinical strength Dove since last summer and I LOVE it, I suggest getting the one that make stubble less noticeable...it's a bottle with pink on it. I've noticed I'm shaving a lot less and have had no problems.
I too love love love Dove deoderant. It's about the only product Dove makes that I'll use - everything else they make dries me out too much... guess that's never a problem with deoderant!
Have you considered trying a dilapatory for your armpits? Not speaking from experience, but if waxing is so painful, maybe nair or something would be an alternative?
I don't know anything about waxing, but I use Certain Dri antiperspirant - it's usually on the bottom shelf of the deodorant aisle. All the "prescription strength" antiperspirants have the same active ingredient, but Certain Dri has a higher concentration of it. It's a little tricky because you have to apply it at night before you go to bed, but it's seriously the only product that will keep me from sweating right through my shirts.
I really want to wax for the big day. I'm not looking forward to the growing out part, but I never feel like I get a clean enough look with shaving.
@jackie-o: so the pits were way worse than the bikini line, huh? I get brazilians as well, and if it's that level of pain I can handle it. BUt I'm also really ticklish under my arms...
I just talked to my "waxer" about this today and she told me that I should come in soon for a trial run with the armpits just to make sure I can take to it well, I guess some people can get rashes! She said it does hurt a bit but it comes out so nice and clean looking! I'm gonna give it a shot, but yea the 4 day growth she wants me to have ughhh!! so gross. lol
Waxing hurts soooo bad... I did it once and never again... I would really like to have lazer hair removal for the underarms...
For me I don't remember it hurting that bad. Hmmm. Anyways, I really like Degree Clinical Strength for women. It was definitely strong enough to cover what I needed.
I just wanted to say that yes! I sweat more when it's cold than in the warmer months!! It doesn't make any sense. I sweat through most of my sweaters.
Also, when I'm at work, I am always perspiring under my arms and it's very annoying and leads unfortunately to my work clothes eventually having a permanent, um, smell in the arm pit area :(
Anyhow, I treated myself to laser hair removal for my armpits. It definitely hasn't changed the sweating issue, but it is so nice to never have to think about shaving them. The skin is always baby soft and it got rid of the dark shadowing I once had too.

Gross, I know. But I need to know. I'm going strapless/ sleeveless on the Big Day and I hardly ever do this! Shaving isn't going to be enough because, much like Miss Pug (whose post today inspired me) my practically black, dark brown hair stands out waaaay too much against my paper-thin, ghost-like skin.
How do you ladies get your pits smooth and hair-free? Tell me everything!
I also have a problem with er, dampness. I use Lady Mitchum, which works pretty well unless it's cold (anyone else sweat MORE when it's cold??), but it leaves a residue and gives me a rash if I put it on too soon after shaving. Anyone out there have any pointers?
