i've switched... or am mid-switch, and while i DO feel really guilty about the expense, i'm also relieved that i will have something i feel good in at the wedding. i had an awesome dress custom-made for me-- but by the time it was done, i felt like a giant marshmallow in it. i was bummed, and didn't feel pretty. at the last possible second i ordered a dress i'd seen and loved in a store. (hey, at least it was on major sale!) guilty, guilty, guilty about the waste/expense. happy, happy, happy about the lovely new dress en route to me.
whichever one i don't wear will be sold on PreOwnedWeddingDresses.com or elsewhere! that's my consolation, budget-wise. (in fact, both can be sold, after the wedding, come to think of it.)
Thanks for your story. I do feel guilty but I dont want to feel weird in my dress on my wedding day so I knew I would have to try again. When I tell people I'm looking for a new one, they seem shocked and remind me that i already bought one. I just want THE one to be perfect.
No need to feel guilty...the dress that you have is super gorgeous, but like you said, you just need something that is more suited for your wedding :) I think that you would be uncomfortable and unhappy wearing a heavy gown that would be better for a indoor, traditional church wedding. You made a GREAT decision to look for a new gown!!!
Have you looked at the Maggie Sottero destination gowns...I have seen so many that are stunning! Good luck!! :)
Ditto on futuredrbraun my dress is a Destinations by Maggie Sottero and I loooove it! :) :)
I'm a two dress bride and like most 2 dress brides never intended to be and yes, there's been guilt and I always feel silly telling people, but I have 2 beautiful dresses and so I'm trying to enjoy it. I knew I was having a destination wedding and still bought a dress that wasn't appropriate! I'm one of those brides who didn't really enjoy the wedding dress shopping experience, so when I finally found a dress I liked I bought it. It wasn't until I got to my fittings and was extremely hot and uncomfortable in my dress did I realize I needed something different or I was going to be miserable (I'm getting married in Puerto Rico, though not on the beach). I don't know what your budget is, but I ended up finding a claire pettibone sample that was half the original price and is perfect for my destination AND it's so comfortable!
I do love my first dress, so I will actually probably wear both, using the more uncomfortable, but more formal one for my reception (which is at night and indoors so shouldn't be quite as hot) so maybe that's something you could consider? At least for me it's helping with the guilt :)

How many ladies out there are a 2 dress bride??
My FH and I were planning a Catholic wedding in our small town in NY. But in the next month we'll be moving to southern Florida and will be planning our wedding there, on the beach. I have already bought a dress, fit for a church, with a long train. but now that doesnt suit a beach wedding so once again, I'll be hitting the stores to find a dress to match our wedding. I have guilt about wanting a new dress but excited too. Have you ever felt bad about switching dress?
I'm also looking for ideas on beachy wedding dresses.
Here's the one i already bought:
