First off, how crazy that you both picked gold dresses for your weddings!  Other than the color, the two dresses are completely different styles.  Did she know you were planning on a gold dress when she picked her dress?  I wouldn’t worry too much about it.  As you said, your wedding is first, so if anything it will look like she copied you.. Especially if you were engaged first and had your wedding date picked out first.

I understand your frustration, though.  You had this completely original (in my opinion.. I would have NEVER thought of a gold dress) and now she has gone and done the same thing a few weeks after you.  Can’t wait to see pictures of your dress!  It is going to be so unique and gorgeous!

I don’t think you have anything to worry about.  The two dresses are very different.  I agree it is interesting that both of you picked gold.  BTW, I wore gold as well, so of course I love that choice.  But… I really don’t think it is anything to worry about.  If both of you wore white dresses (which is probably what is expected) nobody would think anything about it.

The dresses are totally different, so I don’t think you need to worry.

i don’t think you have anything to worry about.  people might notice they’re both not white, but i don’t think they’ll care, since there aren’t a lot of true white gowns any more.

i’m just curious…who makes your gown?  it’s definitely a show-stopper…beautiful!  your cousin’s gown is very lovely as well, but a little more on-trend, whereas i feel like yours is a lot more unique.

ETA: nm…answered my own question!  (actually, it was Fiance, who is a musician, and he was like…isn’t that marilyn manson’s ex?  and i was like…yeah it is, isn’t it?  lol.)  vivienne westwood makes some stunning ballgowns, doesn’t she?  are you getting a replica made?

@SpecialSundae:  haha i guess i edited my post while you were responding!  anyway, i wouldn’t worry about it.  i know, being deep down in the wedding planning, you know all your intimate details and how personal it is, but really, most people aren’t going to notice.  they’re going to expect certain things from a wedding anyway, and the details will be lost on them…they’ll just see the big picture that’s the sum of the details.

I think you’ll be fine – yours is very different, and you’ll be first!  Just remember, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery… and stop sharing your details so she won’t have a chance to copy any more!

@SpecialSundae:  but it’s not the SAME venue, right?  just relax and enjoy the planning process as much as you can, and do your best not to think about it.  i mean, there’s a LOT of time between now and next spring…you both could start trending in totally different directions.  and even if you don’t, believe me, nobody’s going to notice.  honestly, to the layperson who’s never planned a wedding (and even some who have), ALL weddings look the same overall.  i still wouldn’t worry about it.
