Hi bees! Hoping some of you can offer some advice, because I’m torn on a few topics.
First, I’ve started looking at wedding dresses on line, and plan to actually start going to stores in about a month. My fiance is pretty ambivelent about a lot of things and pretty opinionated about others, so I asked him what he liked/didn’t like in a wedding dress to make sure I got something that he liked too. He initially was all over the place (ex: he didn’t like the “mesh” look which I finally figoured out meant an illusion neckline). So, I ended up actually showing him pictures of dresses, to get a better idea of what he liked, which turned into showing him dresses that I personally really like (as in, I would probably end up buying one of them if they fit me right when I try them on). I’ve gotten a lot of flack from family and friends for doing this. I’ve rationalized it as at least he wouldn’t be seeing ME in the dress and saw just a picture of it, but a lot of people feel like he shouldn’t even see a picture of it! What do you guys think? Is it weird for me to want to get my fiance’s stamp of approval on a dress, or is it an out-dated tradition for the groom to even see any part of the dress before the wedding day?
The second part has to deal with the budget. I just found out today that my aunt (who basically raised me while growing up) has offered to pay for my dress, and has given me a $4,000 budget! I was speechless. She is currently unemployed but has said that she’d been saving money for awhile for this. I’m a pretty practical person and never really saw myself spending more than $1,000, and that was including alterations! She said that I can purchase a dress up to the $4,000 budget and any money left over can be put towards other wedding expenses (photographer, cake, etc). Now I’m really torn- I’m not sure if I want to stick closer to my original budget or “splurge” a bit on getting a more expensive dress. Part of me would love to have a really nice, fancy dress, but the more practical side of me can’t fathom spending so much money on a dress that I’ll be wearing for a day!?!? Any advice, bees?
