I think it’s a great idea getting your FI’s idea on dresses, just in case there’s something he really doesn’t like. There’s been a few Bees who’ve got worried because they found out, after they bought the dress, that their FI didn’t like that particular style or dress.

But that said, you really won’t know until you try dresses on – you may not even like the ones in the photos.

As for the dress gift – how awesome of your aunt! I would assume there’s probably a reason why she set aside that money just for a dress – it could be because she hopes you will pick a particular style of gown or assumes that’s how much a typical gown will cost and that that’s what you would want to pay. I think it’s important to clarify that with her first – and also to take her dress shopping with you.

I wouldn’t spend the extra $$ on other things unless she’s specifically said that’s OK.

#1. I totally showed my fiancé different dresses and asked opinions. Some I liked, others I didn’t. I did find out he didn’t like mermaids so that’s helpful! I think its fine to do that!

#2. go dress shopping in your original budget and see if you find sone thing you love! If not that increase it a $1’000 and see if there’s something you love…and so forth. I bet you can find a dress you love in that $1000-$2’000 range easily! And if not….you have some wiggle room!
