Two wedding dresses??????? need help!

posted 5 months ago in Beehive

I am getting married August 30th 2008 and I have my ceremony wedding gown, but im not sure if i can truly dance in it. My fiance is Chinese and I am Filapino, and i don't know if i should wear a Chinese dress for cake cutting?? Since we are not doing a tea ceremony because i am not chinese, should i still consider a chinese dress?? to fit with the banquet theme??? I sort of want to wear a white silk wedding gown for the cake cutting/dancing part..but one of my friends thinks i should wear a purple dress, since my color is purple?? i found it to be odd???  I think wearing three dresses is just not within my budget. Wearing a plain silk straight dress will give it the banquet theme some modern feel to it?? o! im not sure... any advice?

IMO, stick with your white wedding dress or another white gown when cutting the cake.  afterall, you're cutting a wedding cake!  i don't think you need to wear a purple dress to match your colors.

SanMagno21,

There are no hard and fast rules; do what you think is best. In fact, if you want to have a Chinese tea ceremony, you totally could. Just because you aren't Chinese it doesn't mean you can't have one. :)

Go with what you like; don't wear it just because you think it goes with something. If you love your ceremony dress, wear it throughout.

Do you remember 1999 when everyone was getting married so they could have a dragon baby boy?  Well I do, I went to about 50 weddings (no joke) Chinese brides usually wear a cheung sam at the rehearsal, it is common for filipino too since so much of the culture is chinese influenced.  They are beautiful and you can have any colour you want.  I say absolutely wear one!  If I can suggest, for so little money you can have one made for you, renting is just such a mistake, you see the same dresses go round and round and they never quite fit perfectly.  Another point if I might, so often we are waiting for the bride to have her hair completely restyled for the 2nd dress, I think this is a mistake but everyone is pretty used to it.  If you get a dress made, ask for a slightly longer zipper, you'll be in and out and feel beautiful!  You can even choose your silk and pattern based on many factors--the year, your sign etc!  Plus you will own this dress forever and unlike the wedding dress...YOU WILL wear it again.
