I am getting married in June down the Cape, and our DJ is from the South Shore area and our Dj is $1500 for 6 hours of music (6pm to midnight). His normal cost is $1800, but we were referred by a friend who used him last year. Anything in the $1400-$2000 is a pretty good price. :o)
We used C-Zone Music, and we had a guitarist, saxophonist, and drummer for the ceremony and cocktail hour (2 hrs), and then a DJ for 4 more hours, and it was $1800 total. Greg is the owner, and fantastic. I think for just DJ services for only 4.5 hrs he might be around $1200 or less. But they are definitely worth checking into. I don't think they really advertise, just go by word of mouth, which is also good. They have a website, just search C-zone music.
I'm paying $700 for 5 hours of DJ service (cocktail hr and 4 hr reception). My DJ is very laid back. He said he'd be as involved or as uninvolved as we wanted, which was important to us, because nothing creeps me out more than a cheesy, sequin-vest, self-promoting DJ. He gave us a discount, so I don't want to put his info here, but if you're interested, PM me and I'll give you his website.
We are paying $1650 in downtown Boston for 5 hours ... CrackerJack Entertainment. He did my brothers wedding and we loved him so we couldn't say no. I asked a similar question on the Boston Knot board and it seemed like some of them were finding people more along the $1200 price range -- but they were mostly outside of the city.
Hope that helps!
I'm paying $1050 for 5 hours, and my DJ is in Waltham--he came highly recommended by my venue. I can give a personal review after the 25th!
$775 for live piano music for the ceremony & cocktail hour + 4 hours of DJ services. Discounted for Friday night wedding. Pretty fair price for Boston!
We are paying $1495, but he is also playing piano for our ceremony and cocktail hour as well as DJ for the entire evening, no travel or overtime fees.
I am going with Mike Keeley Productions. He's wonderful--I cater weddings part-time and have always marveled at the way he gets everyone, young or old, out on the floor. I am a total music snob (80s new wave, freestyle, house music) and I adore him. $1000 for five hours.
Our DJ was awesome. He was only $1000 for the whole night (5:30pm-ish until midnight), brought his own lighting setup, and even had glowsticks to hand out once dancing started. He's young and not at all the sequin vest, bow tie type of DJ. We were pretty picky with our dinner music which he was fine with, and we let him go to town for the dancing music. He had everything from the Pixies to Kiss to the Spice Girls.
He does this as a side job, so he doesn't have his own website. But if you're interested, send me an email and I can give you his contact info, I'm not sure if he'd want his email and phone # out there unsolicited on the internet, but did say to feel free to recommend him. My email is kerry81480@yahoo.com
ours is 2000 for 5 hours in boston but we are getting married in oct 2010. i think your dj is reasonably priced althoug you might want to see if there is a dicount since you are getting married in the so called "off season" for MA.
MCO Productions is a great choice as well. I am not sure about his current pricing but give him a call. He is based out of Brighton.Give him a call and let him know I sent you!
We're using Beat Train Productions, which has a-mazing recs! They're $1500, and we're having a cocktail hour + 4 hour reception. It is a little expensive, but I think it will be worth it! :)
For a saturday night you should expect quotes from 1200 to 2900 from most reputable companies that specialize in weddings. of course you can save money on a friday or sunday event! but most brides and grooms want the glamerous feel of a saturday evening affair!

We're using Diamond Events, LLC out of Plaistow NH - he's charging us $500 for the whole night!! He's good too, he did FI's cousin's wedding. Dennis Healy is the DJ, it's a great deal!
We're paying $1,250 for a Saturday night in July. We went with Murray Hill Talent Agency. They've been very responsive and helpful with our planning, and they've had great reviews online.
We paid $1000 for about 6 hours of DJ services in Boston on a Saturday night. We used Curtis Knight and he was great. Very easy to work with, and listened to what we wanted. We got a lot of compliments from our guests about the song choices. He kept folks on the dance floor all night and people seemed to enjoy themselves.
Our DJ (MCO Productions) had very reasonable prices (we had a DJ and an assistant). We paid under $1300 for music from 6-11pm, and they accommodated our friend who was singing. DJ Michael was great to work with. He was as involved (or uninvolved in a good way) was we wanted him to be.
@mp0807: Did you book the "Curtis and Anna" package deal, or did you have one of their employees dj your wedding?

I am getting married this January in Cambridge and I have recieved a quote for a dj (recommended by the hotel) which seems very high. $1400 for basic dj services from 7:30-12:00 midnight. Maybe it because I am not well versed on the many aspects (set-up, equipment, etc) it takes to dj.
has any one else recently gotten married in Boston area and what was the price of your dj?
love and lollipops!
