I was my sister’s MOH, and the four of us spent $200 a piece, not including food or having to rent a venue (MOG and MOB did the food, and my aunt offered up her big historic mansion of a house for the venue).

I’ve been involved in the planning of 2 showers and they both came out to be just above $100/maid. These showers were for 20-30 people. In both cases, there were 5 bridesmaids splitting the cost.

When I was MOH for my best friend the best man and I threw a “stock-the-bar” party. It was at the brideg and groom’s house but we did invites and the food: best man did burgers and hot dogs, I did beef/chicken/veggie kabobs.  It was very nice and I spent under $100 and did not ask for contributions from the other bridesmaids

Out of curiousity, where Upstate? I’ve hosted quite a few showers and while they can spiral out of control pretty quickly, they can also be done on the cheap if need be. $1200 for 40 people (just for the venue & food/drinks) seems a little high though it depends on the venue/formality of the event.

Most showers that I’ve been involved in, I paid for completely. My SIL’s baby shower was cohosted by my MIL and I but I still spent a shitload on just my portion (if I recall, atleast $500). The other showers would have come out to around $200-$250 p/person (w/ 5 BM’s) had anyone else contributed. Thankfully these showers had relatively small guest lists so I wasn’t completely bankrupt when they were all said and done.

@hotchildinthecity:  Ha, I’m in the Albany area. I’ll compile a list of some of the places I’m familiar with and PM you. Out of curiousity, how far north are you willing to go? Most of my expertise is up in the Clifton Park/Saratoga/Lake George area but I could still make a few suggestions for closer to Albany.

@hotchildinthecity:  Invites, favors, decorations, games, prizes for games, cake/dessert. That’s about it.
