I've been to several in fact, and to be honest I never really noticed unless someone else mentioned it. But, in that case just like you the bride or groom wasn't real comfortable with it and everyone was ok with that.
No need to stress you out even more on your wedding day :-)
I found out just this past weekend that my parents didn't have ANY dancing at their wedding! They didn't even do a first dance. They said they couldn't afford the band they would've needed back in the day, and that "everybody was too busy eating and drinking and having fun to care."
So if you don't want to do it, skip it! Just be sure that if other people will be dancing, you let them know the dance floor is open. : )
Well, we have hired a band and there will be dancing - I just won't be doing any slow dancing in front of an audience. :) I intend to dance - I'm not against dancing at all! I just don't really want an audience. Or if I do have an audience I'll need to make my way to the bar many times before the dancing begins ;)

I'm thinking about skipping the whole first dance stuff. Will people think that I'm really strange for doing that? I hate slow dancing, I always have, and I really don't like the idea of slow dancing while everyone watches. I actually sort of feel like throwing up when I think about it. And people have suggested that I take dance lessons but I HATE slow dancing, so I really wouldn't enjoy it.
Has anyone been to a wedding where they skip the dance?
