So I just got into an argument with a friend on my facebook wall about TWILIGHT of all things. I posted Stephen King's quote ''Harry Potter is all about confronting fears , finding inner strength , and doing what is right in the face of adversity. Twilight is about how important it is to have a boyfriend.'' as my status and she wrote back that Harry Potter was "gay". Of course I responded saying "Um then that's awesome cause I LOVE gay people and gay things...who doesnt love being happy???".

She then proceeded to basically try to school me on how cool Twilight is and why Harry Potter fails. But to me, Twilight is a poor man's Buffy and I will never think it's cool. I even told her I wouldn't let an impressionable tween daughter read it because the relationship between Edward and Bella is so messed up and dysfunctional.

Also...I am 24 and my friend is 28. And we were arguing about Twilight on my Facebook wall...how lame is that?

Basically just wanted to share and see if there are any other twilight haters. I think there was haterade in my water today..lol

@kate169: Yep.  You and me both.  I'm so friggin' over it.  Showtime has been playing their movies non-stop on like two or three of the channels.  Jeebus.  Most Twilight fans OWN the damn movies.

@MissPumpkinPie: Pretty much everyone in my office owns them and when I bash twilight they're like well the books are so much better...but the books suck pretty hard as it is...

@kate169: I admit that I never read the books or saw the movies, but the way that society acts towards it, I don't think I ever want to.  The quote you posted is true.

I enjoyed the books...then they became popular and I was quickly over it.  I saw the first movie and thought it was horrible.  A complete waste of almost 2 hours of my life.  lol

hahaha! I put that quote on my facebook a few weeks ago :) it's so true. I have read both series and seen the movies...there is NO way that Twilight is better than Harry Potter. Seriously.

Hated the book (I thought it was written for and by 4th graders) and hated the movies which I was forced to watch. Plus, vampires are not supposed to sparkle.

I never got into Harry Potter either.

@BoiledPNut: I won't lie...I did enjoy the books but I like trashy stuff lol. The part that is most annoying is how Twilight fans act like its the best and like it's about true love.

The books are written horribly for the romance-obsessed at a fourth grade reading level. Not my cup of tea, but neither is Harry Potter. They are directed at tweens and teens, so I am confused as to why everyone gets in such heated arguments over them. Frankly, I am tired of hearing about both.

@kate169: I have to start watching True Blood!  I want nothing to do with Twilight.  I have never seen Harry Potter (I know, I'm the only person in this world!), but I'm so excited to get started on it. My FI wants me to, so I'll give it a try.

kate169 I'm not really big on vampire anything, but I have to say atleast True Blood was kind of funny for a while there.

@kate169: Seriously.  I don't get the hype.  I also don't think Taylor Lautner and Rob Pattinson are all that good looking.  Everyone thinks I'm crazy, but I can think of guys who would have been better.  :)

@Mrs.ChubbyBunny: I think its just maddening for Harry Potter lovers because Harry Potter is actually a well written book whereas Twilight reads like a wiki fan fiction type book.

@BoiledPNut: Lautner still looks 14.  Him being "built" for the movies and his voice in general does not go with the character (from the previews I've seen).  SEX SELLS!

I just dont understand the whole twilight series or harry potter. I guess my imagination doesnt expand that far into believing and watching shows about wizards and vampires. For those that do...thats cool. It just not for me.

The same thing happened when I posted the quote on Facebook too! We just decided to agree to disagree though, because she's actually never read Harry Potter so she was bias. ;) More people agreed with me though!

@MissPumpkinPie: Oh yay!!! I'm not the only soul left!!! In fact, I think I was one of the last people to see Titanic.  I don't really like "hype" movies.

And like some of the other people said-- I don't get the vampires + wizards deal... it's just not really for me.  But, I'm giving HP a try.

@kate169: I agree Harry Potter is written so well and is so much more in depth than Twilight.

I have to admit that I read the books and was entertained but it was more because I was waiting for the next HP book to come out.  I'm going to see Breaking Dawn just because I want to but I know it doesn't compare with HP at all.

The best "parody" I've seen is a photo shoot that The Big Bang Theory cast did of New Moon for EW magazine. Now that I can get into.

I had a friend at one point (older than me in her early 40s) who was so obsessed with it that she has legally named all of her grandkids and her pets after the characters. That's going a little overboard in my opinion, but to each their own.

Haha, if I'd put that quote on my wall, I'd have people arguing with me too! The saddest thing is, my cousin is in her 40s and she LOVES Twilight. And she has two daughters. I find it scary to think about what their idea of a relationship is after reading the books/watching the movies.

The other day, I read an article that talked about Bella and Edwards honeymoon, and it basically said since Edward is a vampire, he couldn't control himself and hurt Bella while sleeping with her. But being the good wife that she is, she didn't say a word and let him do whatever he needed to do. Umm.. sexual abuse, seriously?! Is this what we want to teach young girls? Can someone who read the book verify this?

@MissPumpkinPie:Ugh! I totally agree. There are SO many more talented young actresses that would have been a better Bella.

But hey, I guess it takes a special kida character to be into a sparkly dead guy?

@kate169: I'm here with you! I didn't read HP until I was a soph in college (at DH's request) and was surprised how much I liked them because I usually really dislike that genre. But they are so well-written and have so many good values represented in them

Twilight on the other hand......I did read them and I think my brain died a little. Bella breathed. Bella blinked. Bella thought about a desperate attempt to attract Edward. Bella blinked.

The movies were even worse, imo, because Kristen Stewart can.not.act. I've only seen the first two (tv and a plane - I did NOT pay to see them, lol) but that was enough for me. I have no problem with it being someone's guilty pleasure, but all the younger girls (including my ridiculously obsessed sister) that are so beyond into it, bug me.

No, you are not going to find someone like Edward or Jacob. No, it is not cool to completely let some man control your life like that. No this is not how a real relationship should work.

    /End rant.

@kate169:FI's name is "Edward", it's a family name and he's the 4th Edward... it makes me sad knowing that our baby Eddie will be on a class with other Edwards and Eddies... only their mom's were REALLY into Twilight...
