- Wedding: November 2012
This is my first post, but I’m really hoping wedding bees out there have some great ideas to perhaps help with my ugly wedding chair situation.
My fiance and I finally found a ceremony venue that we LOVE and it’s super affordable… a nearby public library in Southern California. Here’s a photo of the ceremony site below from someone else’s wedding with rental chairs:
Now let me show you the library’s FREE provided chairs (that their staff will also set up and clean up for FREE):
A couple things:
1) This venue is for our ceremony only. So we’re only renting the place for about 2 hours. All non-library property must be removed as soon as our rental time is up.
2) We don’t want to rent chairs. The cheapest quote I got was $120 for 140 white Samsonite chairs for delivery and pickup, even around our 2 hour time window. As cheap as that is, we’re on a budget and the idea of FREE library chairs is much more attractive… only their chairs aren’t so attractive.
3) I actually have access to free Samsonite chairs to use, since my uncle has 200 we could borrow. We’d just have to transport them, set them up, clean them up… but it just seems like too much work to worry about, plus needing access to multiple trucks or a UHaul, especially since the library staff won’t help us with the set up rental chairs either (liability reasons).
My solution: Disguise the heck out of the free chairs and use my floral team (my friends actually) to drape them during set up. Keep in mind there are arms so we can’t use whole chair covers.
Something like that, but with white tulle and covering the entire top. Only thing is that there is no bottom horizontal bar to wrap the tulle around for security (it’s gonna slip right off). If we tie off the front and back flap together, it’ll be more secured, but might not look as white as I’d want?
Can’t do horizontal sash tying because of the odd triangular shape of the chair back.
But yes, tulle is the ideal material because no hemming is needed (140 chairs!) and it’s cheap… although I’m not sure how much yardage I need per chair to make sure it’s not too see through. And then we’d tie it off with DIY purple crystal beaded elastic bracelets to add a pop of our wedding color. This will all cost around $50-60. In the end, decorating the chairs will be even faster than having my friends come set up my uncle’s free chairs.
I’m going to buy some tulle and do a mock chair decoration when I visit the venue next week and will post updates for feedback. In the meanwhile, please send me any new ideas if anyone has any better than mine!
Any inputs on cheapest resources for white tulle would be appreciated!
Sorry this post is so long. If you made it this far down, thank you!
