I’m new to the boards too but I hope this helps. Have you thought of not covering them, people will be in the chairs or standing near them while you walk down the isle and they will not be noticed in the pictures. Also most photographers fade out everything else and highlight the bride. I say save money and spend it on something that you will remember. 🙂

@tbt2103:  I agree with the PP’s. No one is really going to pay attention to the chairs and the tulle will most likely get in the way.  Once people sit down you can hardly even see the chairs (see pic of my wedding below).  Maybe consider adding aisle decorations or something on each end chair instead.  Just a thought…

Since you have plenty of time, maybe you can work on the things that are most important to you first, and see if the chairs matter to you closer to the day of.  Especially since someone will have to decorate & un-decorate them, right?

I agree w/some PP that I think the chairs look totally fine.  If they bother you now,  you might not like them even if you decorate the heck out of them.  But I look forward to seeing your mock up.

I think the chairs could be sooo much worse!!  These aren’t chivari chairs, but they certainly aren’t hideous.  I think you’d spend quite a bit of time/effort and of course money trying to decorate or disguise them.  Remember, someone will have to put on tulle/sashes and tie and remove them after the ceremony.  For me, the time/effort/cash wouldn’t be worth it.  If it’s that important to you, I’d spend the $200 and rent chairs that are more to your liking, and not spend the time/effort/cash just trying to hide the free ones.  It kind of defeats the purpose of saving money if you’re going to spend the $$ to decorate them and have to have someone to set up, tear down.

I think the tulle draping would look very nice and make the chairs look a bit less industrial. I would bunch them together loosely under the back rest, it’ll still look pretty “white” in pictures.

Your inspiration picture shows organza chair sashes, which you can buy or rent fairly cheaply. For your chairs, I’d make my own so they were a bit wider and covered the whole back of the chair. Go to the LA garment district and snoop out the cheapest price, I’d recommend LA Alex (the shop) as your first stop. If you buy organza, it’ll need to be hemmed or it will fray, but tulle won’t. Tulle isn’t as opaque though, so you might want to use two layers.

I think your time and money is better spent elsewhere. They are not ideal, but I wouldn’t call them ugly.

If it were me I’d save the money and leave them as is since it’s only the ceremony site.  They’re not that bad and people will be focused on you and the ceremony rather than the chairs.  Honestly, I can’t even think of what the chairs have looked like at weddings I’ve attended.

This is just a logisitical question here, but if you put all this tulle and stuff on the chairs… who is going to take it off? Will the library staff do that and just toss the tulle? That seems like almost as much work!

The chairs aren’t ideal, but like many PP’s have said, they could be a lot of worse!
