I seriously don’t think it’s that bad. What’s your concern? The dark carpet? The chairs? if you are concerned about the carpet you can do a bright coloured runner like white, have flowers on the pews and that’s it. Ceremonies are usually 15 – 30 minutes and I think it’s not worth spending lots of money on decoration.

livhuss:  I agree with the pp that it’s not that bad. I actually like the clean lines, and nothing that needs hiding.

Do you have any theme or color scheme for your wedding? The church decor doesn’t have to be exactly the same but often co-ordinates with the reception decor.

Will you be able to remove all the band equipment in the pic? and the multi colored calendar? The colored wall in the back is perfect to highlight you in your wedding dress.

I would do some simple pew decor-check Pinterest for many ideas, then do something grander above the altar area.

a floral curtain

As a chandelier or ceremony marker, cascading strands of Easter lilies look like living wedding bells.

hang some baby’s breath pomanders

baby's breath bundles - DIY brides can do this up to 3 days ahead of wedding if the florist oasis 'balls' are thoroughly wet before adding Baby's Breath sprigs ... and ensuring they are misted with cool water twice a day

clean lined box columnns on either side

Good for a backdrop to a ceremony in a garden or somewhere that has no focal point - tall box towers with florals on top

I think it looks lovely and modern. I really like that artwork on the right. Just adding flowers would add bridal flair.

I think it’s pretty great too, actually, as long as you like a modern look.

I think getting rid of the band equipment is a good idea. The blue backdrop will be quite nice. And maybe some simple garlands along the benches?

I don’t think it looks “ugly” to me, it just looks plain. Drape some crepe/ribbon down the aisle, add an aisle runner, maybe some flowers and a backdrop … voila! Whole new space.

livhuss:  Many couples woulld be happy to trade you venues. At least the grey is neutral so you can do anything you want as far as decor is concerned.

You coud be dealing with this

I’d find a way to make the asile look special – the carpet and chars kind of blend together.

Maybe a white aisle runner lined in rose petals in your wedding color like this YES to this wedding aisle lined with purple rose petals, fresh floral pomanders and checkerboard landscaping.

Are you able to hang stuff from the light fixture? Maybe you could drape some tulle or tie some streamers.
