I have been married for almost 2 years now, but this post brought back so many memories because when I was waiting, I absolutely had ugly engagement ring nightmares!  I had totally forgotten about them, so this post made me lol!  And yes, they were replaced by wedding nightmares after the engagement.  Pouring rain all day, spilling a glass of red wine all over my dress, oversleeping, etc.  Now that I’ll be ttc next month, my dreams have been filled with miscarriages and pregnancy/birth complications.  Geez, reading through my post makes me think I should maybe look into anxiety medication!

Kayla0416:  SAME!!

I definitely had ugly engagement ring dreams. The worst was when he proposed with a GIANT clunky school ring (we met in college, and our ring is this (endearingly) ugly, rectuangular hunk of metal with a beaver on it) that was big enough to fit two thumbs in it. I started crying in the dream (and in real life, when I woke up) because I knew he obviously didn’t know me well enough to marry me.

Now, the wedding dreams are pouring in… Wrong shoes, wrong invitation envelope liners, people forgetting whose wedding it was… you name it. I’ll be happy to be rid of them in 3-4 short months!

Oh yes. They’re regular. Worst I’ve had is that he proposed with a rusty nail he pulled out of a fence post. He said that the rust represented our love in all weathers. Needless say when I woke I wasn’t best impressed with him. I told him my dream and he laughed. Later that day we were out shopping and we walked past a hardware store, he looked at it and then looked at me, “I just need to pop in here for a second. I’ve had something order they had to weather for me.” NOT FUNNY!

It’s completely normal to have those sorts of nightmares. Something about engagements and weddings brings out the crazy in even the most rational of people. Just talk it out with the people who love you. They’ll calm your fears, politely tell you if you’re acting like a nut, and help keep you grounded.

amberback:  I’ve had two in the last month! It’s kind of funny because when I wake up and think about what the ring looked like it was pretty cool… just in my dream I hated them

I definitely had these nightmares! I think they mostly stemmed from reading these boards so often while I was waiting.

amberback:  I’ve had dreams about my ring being stolen or falling apart, but never an ugly ring dream. Last night I dreamed that I had the Elizabeth Taylor diamond as my ring lmao.

Too funny!  I had one years ago with an ex, and I had worked at and left Zales a few years before I had met him.  I dreamed that he proposed with a ring that we could never get rid of in our clearance case (it was that bad), but I was so happy that I didn’t care about the ring.

amberback:  Once I got my ring, I had SOOO many dreams that it would break, get lost, stones fell out, etc.  It was insane!

I’ve had ugly wedding dress nightmares, and several nightmares about the engagement ring. I think I’ve posted about them here before.

It’s funny, I’ve actually had so many weird dreams specifically about the engagement ring that it has become a lucid dreaming trigger for me. As an example, I’ve had many dreams where I’ve recieved my ring, I’m wearing it, and then I’ll look closer and notice that something is “off” – either the ring will be hideous, or the diamond has cracked or fallen out. Now when those scenarios play out, I instantly realize I’m dreaming. It’s interesting because a common technique to become lucid within a dream is to look at your hands – you’ll notice something weird about them and realize it can’t be real, waking life.

I never had dreams about an ugly ring or anything but immediately after getting engaged I had several dreams that the stone fell out of the ring or I lost the ring altogether.

I stopped sleeping with the ring on when I had one dream that involved the stone getting lost in an endless pile of white bed sheets. After that the dreams turned into wedding nightmares

I never had any ugly engagement ring nightmares or anything but like the pp, I had a nightmare after we were engaged…

The ring was like black and looked to be made of spaghetti and was separating and stretching more and more and I kept sceaming “IT’S NOT REAL GOLD! IT’S GOING TO LOSE THE DIAMOND”! lol

I woke up and frantically checked to make sure my ring was still perfect and not black stretching spaghetti lol

I had a dream last night with disappearing rings. It started off very sweet. My SO proposed, on bended knee and saying very sweet things (thought for some reason he was whispering lol) and he gave me a really pretty ring but that is nothing like what we talked about. I have a silly tradition with myself that whenever I get any gifts I go to my room and admire them for just a moment alone. So after her put it on me I went and did this and the ring and other rings I had on kept disapearing. I kept looking at my hands and one moment I was wearing a bunch of rings, and then not any, and then a bunch of different ones. It was really unnerving. And then I could never remember which was the ring that he gave me or what it looked like at all.

Having woken up now, I’m wondering if it’s representative of the fact that our timeline for engagement/wedding keeps shifting. First it’s coming, then it’s not, then it is again but not sure when.
