I want to do polka dot 50s themed dresses. I want them to be alternating.

Such as White dress w black polka dot and then a black dress w white polka dots and so on for 6 girls.

My wedings in the spring and I think having BRIGHT bouquets and such will be SUPER cute with the dresses. Any comment or opinions?

I just dont want it to look dumb. Please tell me what you honestly think.

I think that would be adorable!!! Would your dress be 50s-style, too?

Bright solid-color florals for each BM is a great way to make it not too busy:

-Each BM has a single kind of flowers, but in a different color (yellow callas, green callas, purple callas, etc.)

-Each BM is assigned a color but has a mix of flowers (white mix, blue mix, yellow mix)

-Each BM has the same color flowers but different types (pink roses, pink peonies, pink gerberas)

I think carnations or gerberas would be an adorable way to go with the super-sweet 50's theme. Oooh I'm having so much fun thinking about it! Uh Im not to sure. What do you think : wedding black and white bridemaid dresses Icon Biggrin

I think it would look very theme-y. It would definitely be one of those bridesmaids dresses they couldn't wear again. You asked us to be honest, so I am. I think it would look bad. I love polka dots, but I think that would be too much.

I think it depends on your venue, time of wedding ect. I agree with Kate, i would never wear that BM dress again.. but honestly, does anyone wear there BM dresses again?

Also it might be hard to find alternating pokadot colors like that for Bm dresses.

It would be really cute if you can pull it off though!

I have one BMs dress I will wear again. We've ordered those TwoBird dresses that change into like 150 dresses. LOL I'll wear it in the summer after the wedding. It's pretty cute. Well, it looks cute, we haven't gotten them yet.

As far as finding polka dot dresses go, you might look into having them made. I have seen polka dot silk dupioni(sp?) that had the dots embroidered on the fabric. Cute.

Actually, I think you could probably find that kind of dress at a place like Nordstrom or Macy's... I would totally wear a polka-dot dress to a wedding or a summer party, as long as it's not an ugly dress. :-D And it's not like you're going to be standing with all the other BMs the next time you wear the dress...

I would TOTALLY wear a polka dot dress again. Maybe I am too preppy for words, but I think they are adorable and more likely to be reworn than something in a pale blue chiffon, for example. It's your day girl...If you are worried about how it would look, you should browse the internet for pictures. I am sure someone has done something comparable. Another option might be a solid color dress (all in one color) and alternating polka dot sashes. I believe I saw something similar on the preppy wedding blog (just google preppy wedding blog). There is also a blog called polka dot bride for inspiration. Also, on the polka dot theme, have you seen Melissa Sweet's Dora? ADORABLE!

Dont worry about wearing the dress again!  I would definitely have ONE colour for flowers, like all red or all bright pink, I think with the black and white alternating the last thing you want is a mix of colours in your flowers, and I wouldnt even add green.  Hang some of this kind of fabric up in your house for a week or so, you will get some ideas, and likely edit some you already came up with.

If you go with black and white polka dots, I would do pink or yellow flowers. Though, I guess black, white and yellow might be a little bee-ish, but I think it would be cute.

    Here is a dress I found...http://www.edressme.com/dresses8849.html

I love polka dots and I would so wear a polka dot dress again. But polka dots aren't for everyone I guess. I think it would be super cute though!

I know I saw a polka dot wedding on a blog recently.  They did black dresses with white dots.  It was very cute.  If I see it again I will send it to you.

I think it depends on the dress.  If you do a nice cocktail dress, and very the size of dots and each dress, and style... super cute.

If they are matchy matchy in different colors.. not so cute.

Love it!  I think it would almost have a retro 50's feel.

I think it would be really cute, but I would put them all in black with white dots instead of alternating.  But I am biased because I own a black sundress with little white polka dots that would be a great BM dress.  The shape of it is similar to http://www.edressme.com/10986.html, but with a simple white ribbon around the waist, and the dots are small and regular instead of splotchy.

Alternating white w/ black and black w/ white polka dots could end up looking a little too busy, but the general idea is absolutely lovely if you ask me. It will all depend on the fashion style of your bridesmaids for whether or not they'll wear them again, but it certainly sounds like something I'd wear again in a heart beat (especially if I got to choose to wear black w/ white rather than vice versa)!

I really like GorgesViola idea for the flowers - pick one color and everyone gets a bouquet of different flowers in that color. And definitely BRIGHT colors. Hot pink or bold red would be dramatic and fun.

I saw this inspiration board on AisleDash today and thought of this thread:

    http://www.aisledash.com/2008/06/30/inspiration-board-retro-cool/

Like the other posters said, you could either go in a very preppy direction with this, or a 50s, even rockabilly direction.

I think alternating polka-dots would be a little too distracting visually.  But black and white polka dots are a super cute idea.  If you are going in a preppy direction, you could also have all your girls in solid black dress, and then have a polka dot accessory - like a sash.  You could get away with alternating a sash a lot more than the whole dress.

Good luck with making your choice - there's a lot of fun things you can do!
