@Benten24:  Can you return the dresses to the company and order them rushed from somewhere else? I would not put up with that kind of customer service! Yikes! Sorry that happened to you! :/

@Benten24:  You could try and buy the same material from elsewhere (if its part of the dessy group you can buy the material here http://www.dessy.com/swatches-trims/) and get someone who makes wedding/BM dresses in your area to replace the bottom half of the dress??

@Benten24:   Did you check their return policy before you bought them?  Does their return policy state something different?

There’s no way you’ll get extra length out of that dress aside from adding additional layers of fabric to it which would look odd. Unfortunately you might just have to suck it up and take their offer of the discount on the 2nd dress. You can try to fight them on it but it’s likely not going to get you anywhere.

@Benten24:  To be quite honest, from a business’s perspective, it WOULD be a loss for them to accept a return or exchange on these bridesmaids dresses. The majority of designer dresses aren’t mass produced and are typically made only when they get an order for a specific size, color, and style. Therefore, for the business to accept these bridesmaids dresses as a return would leave them with several dresses that could potentially sit in their stock room forever. Don’t be so hard on them for their lack of customer service because they 1) haven’t done ANYTHING wrong, and 2) ARE responding to you.

That said, I can definitely understand your frustrations, but you have to admit that the error was on your part. Were your bridesmaids properly measured before purchasing the dresses? Considering that you have an exceptionally tall attendant, it would have been smart to get accurate measurements before placing any order. It would be one thing if the dress’s measurements were advertised incorrectly, but it seems that you guys just placed your order and it turned out that the dress was too short.

Unfortunately, (unless there’s a magical amount of five additional inches somewhere in there) a tailor is extremely limited in how much they can “let out” the length of a dress — at max (and depending on the fabric), it’s usually only about 1/2″ – maybe a full 1″.

They have clearly stated their return/exchange policy on their website, so looks like you’re stuck 🙁

What is your return policy?

All sales are final and cannot be cancelled. Due to the special nature of our merchandise, we cannot accommodate exchanges or refunds under any circumstances. In addition, our designers are unable to cancel or make any changes or modifications to any order once it has been placed. Please be sure of the style, size, color, and any other specifications before submitting your order. Also, standardized dye lots cannot be guaranteed for orders with multiple gown styles.

@Benten24:  could your long legged friend wear a slip? like a lace one or some kind of slim short petticote? I would ask a tailor what they would do, maybe visit a fabric store with the dress, try to match color and fabric and see if a tailor can make a new skirt for the dress? I hope this works out for you, what a terrible situation

This is what their return policy says: “All sales are final and cannot be cancelled. Due to the special nature of our merchandise, we cannot accommodate exchanges or refunds under any circumstances. In addition, our designers are unable to cancel or make any changes or modifications to any order once it has been placed. Please be sure of the style, size, color, and any other specifications before submitting your order. Also, standardized dye lots cannot be guaranteed for orders with multiple gown styles.”

So, given that, they are being pretty accommodating.  Why didn’t you know how tall she was when you ordered?

Anyway, I would just buy a new dress and try to sell the other.

Why didn’t she order the dress with extra length? I’m familiar with that website and they are by no means some scam website. They are a legit bridesmaid store here in NYC, and they operate that website as an extension of their store – offering a big discount for basically “no frills”. It’s a shame you had a bad experience, but your BM should’ve order the dress with extra length if she’s a tall girl! Can she sell the dress on ebay or online and order a new one?
