well, we are getting married July 10 this year in Somerset
fab venue called the Longhouse, which is quite a modern building on the edge of a small town with lovely rural views
I got my dress in Davids Bridal when we were in the US for christmas which was great, FI got his suit over there too - oh and we got personalised converse too which we aren't telling our parents about in advance!
our photographer is David McNeil, who is often on rock and roll bride. We had our pre-wedding shoot with him in the autumn, and the results were awesome.
am slightly struggling with our caterers at the moment - I suppose it comes down to distance from the venue - we live in Birmingham and sometimes I wish we'd decided to get married closer to home, even though it was me who wanted the westcountry!
how about you?
Hi
Im getting married in my home city, Norwich, Norfolk on 27/8/10. My dress has come from a local bridal boutique called La Belle Angele - it is a shop run by mother and daughter and they are absolutly great.
Our men are hiring their matching suits from Greenwoods. FI is having 4 best men so i couldnt afford to buy for them all so they are hiring.
My photographer is Sam Markwell. He does the photographs for a local holiday centres brochure and he has been a good friend of mine for a few years. We r having our pre wedding shot in June and i cant wait!!
Luckily our catering is being done by the venue and that seems to be going to plan.
The problems im having is family that just wont but out and are driving me mad, they just dont seem to understand it is my wedding - not theirs!! In addition to this one of my bridesmaids works offshore and i can be a pain getting her here for fittings, shopping and support but i guess thats my fault for asking her knowing what she does for a job! lol
Im sure it will all fall into place!?!?
I'm getting married on April 10th at St Mary Abbots in Kensington. Booked two red Routemasters to take everyone from the church to the reception venue; we will take a black cab. Reception at the Institute of Contemporary Art on the Mall, two gorgeous Nash rooms with three floor to ceiling windows and balconies - when you go outside you've got the full panorama from Trafalgar Square, Horse Guards, Whitehall, the London Eye, Big Ben, St James Park and round to Buckingham Palace. It's lovely at night when everything is lit up. We're having a cake of cheese from thecheeseshed.com who are fab, respond very quickly and are full of helpful suggestions.
I tried on some dresses at Mirror Mirror in Crouch End - they were really lovely but I didn't fall in love with any of the dresses (pretty much all strapless) so I had my dress made in China; alterations at a place just off Kensington High Street with a hilarious Romanian seamstress for more than the cost of the whole dress! Underthings from Bravissimo, and wearing some lovely blue suede shoes from Hobbs that I can wear again after the wedding - thinking of getting some white flower shoe clips to put on them as well. Also considering getting a short white dress to change into for dancing but there don't seem to be any in the shops at the moment - all suggestions welcome!!
My FH is wearing a suit he bought at John Lewis - we were shopping for something else but he saw a suit he liked and right off the peg it fit him like it was bespoke. Still need to do something about shoes though. He wants to wear a blue or green tie with a white waistcoat with this silvery blue embroidery but I'm having bridezilla-ish thoughts about it (it looks too purple to me, I really don't like purple).
Photographer is Emma Case (emmacasephotography.blogspot.com) - found her through Rock 'n Roll Bride, got a great rate since she's just starting out, had an engagement shoot to make sure we liked her and her pictures and booked her as soon as we saw the results - she's fantastic!
Biggest snags have been finding accomodation in Central London that's affordable - people have real difficulty understanding how expensive things are! The biggest headache are the guests from the US converting things into US dollars and freaking out - is it that hard to understand that £120 a night in the middle of Mayfair is actually a really great deal? The reason we had it in London and not somewhere else is so people didn't have to fly into London, then spend £50 on a train to get somewhere else and pay for a hotel room that probably is no cheaper than £120 anyway.
Other stress has been with the ICA (the reception venue) - they wanted to limit the cuban salsa band to four people (which would have made it sound crap), they don't want us to have too much furniture in the rooms for health & safety reasons (so I am now worried there won't be anywhere for people to sit)...thankfully I have a planner who is dealing with all this stuff but it's still annoying!
Im getting married on the 10th september 2011! cannot wait! we are getting married at a lovely church in Poole and then our reception is at a local hotel called The Orchid. As soon as i saw it i fell in love, all the chandeliers and drapes...heaven!
Nice to hear about all your plans ladies!
Good luck xx
Getting married this Sunday! (EEK!) Registry office in the morning and an afternoon reception at a pub on the Thames. Not hugely traditional but we'll be doing things like the white dress and the cake cutting.
that sounds lovely! you will have a great day! hope the weather picks up for you it is pretty poor down here in poole! Good luck with everything its all worth the wait!
xx
Thanks Issyb! It's not fab here either (ugh, and it was so gorgeous this past week!). But really not worried anymore. So over the stress! LOL. x
Hooray for UK ladies!!
We are getting married on August 28th, 2011! A while yet but nothing less to do!
I am starting to get quite excited, weve been engaged for a whole year now!
Nice to meet you all!
more hurrah's for UK ladies in the Hive - hello to you all :-)
We're getting married in April, the 30th near to Ipswich, Suffolk. Starting to get excited now we're almost at the 6 month mark!
Here's one more UK bride! I'm getting married just outside north London in July next year. It'll be a civil ceremony in the Italian gardens (weather permitting!) of a Georgian country house hotel. We'll have the reception in the same place and are hoping to have a relaxed and fun wedding with lots of food and drink and dancing.
In some ways it'll be a fairly traditional wedding but my fiance and I are both from different European countries and the guests will be from all over the world so we'll try and incorporate aspects of all our cultures and heritages.
We've got the venue, food and photographer sorted so far and I've started researching make up artists and hairdressers (I definitely need help in the beautification department!), if you ladies have any recommendations I'd love to hear them.
Ohhhh April 30th is around the Corner!! Good luck! I wanted advice from all the UK brides. I am a photographer in the US and looking to break into to UK Market. Besides Rock and Roll Bride - what other resources do you all go to looking for vendors - specifically wedding vendors?? Any help would be appreciated!
I'm getting married near Milton Keynes on October 24th 2011!! We are having a small wedding (about 50 people) with a budget to match! We're getting married here:
http://www.holidayinn.com/hotels/us/en/newport-pagnell/mlklr/hoteldetail
It's a Holiday Inn, which is funny watching peoples faces when we tell them, but it's really nice inside, and they do an amazing package :) I'm doing a lot of DIY including making my own dress!
@ ndadlani When we were choosing our photographer, I googled photographers in the area and then looked at their websites, so I would suggest a good website. We then went to meet him at a bridal fair before setting up a 1:1 meeting. Also, he was recommended by our venue, so if you can make connections to local venues, that would prob help too. Don't really know what else to suggest! Hope this helps.
Thanks so much! Yes, I have a website and have 1:1's with clients all the time - but booking remotely from the US is a bit harder. Would love to break into the UK Market and expand my client case. If you think of anything else please do let me know!
I'm another UK bride. I'm getting married at Fingask Castle in Perthshire. We wanted somewhere big enough for our 200+ family members, with great photo opportunities and where we could have our own caterers. Hotels just weren't for us!
We're having a humanist ceremony in the gardens (weather-permitting), the drinks reception in the garden and meal and evening reception in the marquee.
My dress is a huge silk dupion ballgown made by a local dressmaker with a 1950s style skirt for the evening. She's also making an amazing underwear corset and the petticoats for under my dress. I've found a lovely etsy seller who do stunning silk lingerie so I'm hoping they'll do my knickers and robe for getting ready ont he morning of the wedding.
My shoes were made by Upper Street and I've covered them with Swarovski crystals. They're red and burgundy satin peep-toe Mary Janes with open sides and a 3.5" block heel. Now they're covered with Siam and Dark Siam crystals and super sparkly.
We're planning to have a vow renewal while we're on honeymoon with just the two of us. Our wedding is so big (by our standards) that I felt we'd need something that was just for us.
Another UK bride here, as you may guess by the username (obviously chosen before I figured out I wasn't the only one on here...). We live in London, but will be getting married in Bournemouth. Can't believe the big day is only about 3 months away!
Dress is a Pronovias trumpet gown with a v-neckline and spaghetti straps, Geneva satin, no beading or lace or bling--just ruching and structural design. Love it! Haven't picked out shoes yet, though may do so this month as I'm in Prague at the moment...

It sneaks up really fast! I'm about half-way through our engagement now and I can't really believe it.
@SpecialSundae: who is the etsy seller doing your lingerie?? Always in the market for pretty underthings...
@UK Bride: http://www.etsy.com/shop/MistressCollection?ref=seller_info I fell in love pretty quickly.
Although my corset's being made by my dressmaker http://www.emmelinecouture.com
