My fiance and I became engaged one month ago today and I have really been enjoying the wedding-scheming, except for one thing.
I have a big case of bridal envy when it comes to the presence of family/friends. While it seems like every other bride out there has too many bestests she wants to include, I have only one close female friend. I also have a very small family – about six people total, including my parents, who would attend.
This causes both emotional and logistical troubles, as you can imagine.
My fiance has a brother and three very close guy friends whom he would like to stand up for him in the wedding. I know this is important to him and since we are having an otherwise fairly traditional wedding, I do think it would be nice to have a bridal party. But what to do about the unevenness??
I have one future SIL I might be able to ask, but I know she is not fond of me (or of dresses for that matter). There are also a few once-close friends that I lost touch with, but both of those solutions seem forced and awkward.
I am also wondering how it will look when 90% of the guests are there for him, even though we are both from the same hometown and are hosting it there. :/
Practical advice would be much appreciated, but it would also be great to hear if any other bride has other dealt with loneliness issues, or with feeling like she has a very little place in the world.
In HS (about five years ago) I had tons of friends and my grandparents were still alive, but fast forward a few years and the picture looks very different – I became ill and was a bad friend/never contacted people. My current bestie just happens to be spectacularly patient and forgiving and kind (and I’m grateful for her).
Add to that, the fact that the fiance and I moved 2100 miles away from home this year for his career, and while he has made some friends that way, I’m still struggling. So – if there are any ladies in western WA who would like a bridal buddy – I know this sounds desperate, but well, I miss the company of friends! I love dogs (especially my two goofballs), the outdoors, good food & beer, playing board games and drawing pretty pictures. And looking at wedding blogs.
Thanks much for any advice. 🙂
