    Seriously!

Maybe I've been on the 'bee too long, but give me a wedding where the bride leaves her mark truly on the day!

After seeing such amazing creativity here for over a year, I am simply underwhelmed at the fortunes these grooms and brides pay for their big day?  Why spend so much?  Heck, click on the 'bee or ask one of us to help you out!

Seriously. Some of the ideas are imho over-used, and not all that is glittery is better.  Great style doesn't equal having a fat wallet either.

I say, We tv, take a look at this site.  Bees here are flying circles around some of the top designers..if you don't believe me, take a look around at all of the beautiful bios and daily inspiration you could glean from weddinbee.

Can you tell I'm up late doing laundry watching that darn show?  I had to walk out of the room on that last wedding I swear!!!  I just kept thinking to myself all the time after they'd show what something cost, "I bet she paid thru the nose for that.  I could do that very arrangement for 2/3 less than she paid for it!"

    Hurray for WBee!

I absolutely agree that a fat wallet does not mean good taste.  I think they tend to go overboard on some of these weddings to the point where it begins to look gaudy.

Now don't get me wrong.  I love good style.  I adore it!  I'm all about it.  But I'm also about being responsible too.

T could do whatever I'd dream up and if it were another gal he was marrying, that might've happened.  But darn it!  he met me and we're planning this together and having a blast.  Good teamwork!

Now I know these people are probably happy on that show and I wish them all the very best.  It's just I seriously know I could reproduce some of these centerpieces for alot less.  I think I'd have made a good florist in another parallel universe.

I just love seeing the bride (and maybe the groom?) have some serious input on what is going on with their weddings.  Seeing somebody roll up their sleeves or get out a pencil and sketch or blog and create inspiration boards and then go to the pro's and tell them how it will be done and how to remain in budget.

I shall get off the soapbox again.

I was actually watching Platinum Weddings tonight (while waiting for the Michael Jackson tribute in the Grammys which turned out to be quite underwhelming, and the only interesting thing was seeing his kids there accepting his lifetieme achievement award... but I digress), and I couldn't help but be in shock at the giant budgets, particularly for flowers. I guess I still can't get over how expensive wedding flowers are, but still, I can't imagine spending $50,000 on flowers only (though I can't imagine spending that much on the entirety of the wedding either, but yeah, lol).

Most of the weddings featured looked to be really pretty and elegant and glamorous and whatnot, some of them were simply not my style/taste so I didn't find them as visually appealing as the others, but it still amazes me how much all of that costs!

It really makes me wonder..are these florist charging so much b/c they're suggesting out of season flowers?  I mean, that's what really drives up the cost of florals.

I am just amazed at the costs of some of that.  Now def some of the arrangments I couldn't make, but the ones I saw tonight?  Let's just say many diy'ers here could have done it!

I'm totally with you!  I have never even watched an entire episode, but every time I turn to it, I hear something about East German Hydrangeas, or orchids from the tip of Mount Kilimanjaro---which look EXACTLY like the hydrangeas or orchids at the downtown discount flower mart.  I don't understand why they spend so much money on things where the "quality" of them is totally not apparent.

I would SO MUCH rather watch a "DIY Wedding" show.  I would think that given all the DIY home shows that they have (on the same channels largely), such a show would have been a total gimmie.

I've only watched previews for it and couldn't get into it based on that. But I've seen similar shows. Some folks only care about flaunting how much money they (in most cases, their parents more than likely) have and could care less about anyone else besides themselves or adding any details that reflect the couple at all. They're doing it all for show, and the love and everything else that should go into a wedding is shoved aside and forgotten. Something I read awhile back that I thought was quite interesting is that the price quotes on Platinum Weddings for anything are jacked up a tremendous amount for shock value on the show rather than what those things actually cost.

I forgot it was on! I had my tv on the show and I started doing something else. It's not like it used to be.

Wedding shows stress me out for this very reason-- I refuse to watch them! Half of the time I just want to shake the people.

@bellenga: I can't say enough ...BRAVO TO THIS POST! I have the priviledge of seeing some beautiful weddings where i work..but I also see the lack of "talent"  and just this past weekend a bride hired a "NYC" florist to come to our hotel to do her flowers, and put him up for the weekend...they were HORRID! my 13yr old son could of created something better and I can't even imagine how much she paid for his "work"....they were tall cylinders..filled with gold sprayed banana leaves..and baby's breath...ok, no offense to those who like babys breath..but the fact that she paid $$$$ for these makes me want to scream! I always tell my co-workers to suggest brides to join weddingbee and how much creativity that's on this site blows away a lot of the "industry" people that brides hire!  I've seen Bee's on here that could easily start their own business..they are that talented!
