I am absolutely going nuts. I am used to being a full time student. I stopped going for Elementary Education though, but completed a certification course for Medical Office Administrator. My class ended on December 22, 2010 and I’m in the process of looking for jobs. I had one interview yesterday, but am waiting for a call back by the end of the week. I haven’t worked in awhile so I’m nervous/worried about everything. This is the first time that I haven’t been working or going to school. Things started to go right for me before Christmas. Then the New Year hit and everything went spiraling down hill.
I just don’t know what to do with myself anymore. I’m constantly looking for jobs and applying. I am completely broke so I can’t go buy things to keep myself occupied. The weather isn’t that great to even go outside and enjoy the day. So, I was curious if anyone had any suggestions or advice while I wait to get a job.
Thanks in advance.

Look for work, send out resumes, read rejection letters 🙁 Sit here on WB, try to help others:)-want to get a website up-but haven’t yet-I’ve been out of work for a year today-I think-sometime this week anyway. 🙁

@creativeplannertobee: I’m so sorry to hear. I can’t stand reading the rejection letters anymore. I was just telling J and my Future Mother-In-Law that I am really curious as to how many applications I’ve put in since Dec. It has to be a very high number.
I’ve been on here a lot lately too because of that reason, but I’m bored with everything in general right now.
What sort of work are you looking for?
I wish you the best of luck.

I’m not unemployed, but I am taking the CA bar in July, and will likely be unemployed after that. Here is what I plan on doing:
Working out, walking my dogs, APPLYING FOR JOBS, organizing the house, trying some new hobbies, etc.
Hang in there, it will be over soon, and then you will be missing your free time!

I was just let go from my job on January 7. I’m not utterly bored yet, but getting there. Of course, looking for another job, working out, wedding planning. But, you can only do those things for so long.

I am unemployed and actively looking for a job. I wake up and come on weddingbee while I search for any new jobs in Mi. (Yea, that’s a joke.) I have been unemployed just about a year. I work retail management and finding a job that is desirable is very hard.
Last year I planned my wedding. I was doing wedding stuff daily.
Over the holiday’s I was helping my grandparents out a lot because they are getting older and I’m not doing anything.
When I’m not doing anything I try to be the best Stay-At-Home Wife I can be. I am always cleaning, organizing, and there is ALWAYS a dinner for the Darling Husband. That’s about it. I would love to say that during this year I have worked out like a mad woman that that is not the case. I have no motivation for that and I do not like to work out alone.
Good luck finding a job!!!!
P.S. I’m waiting to get a call back from this wonderful interview I had last week!! I know they already call my reference.

I read a lot. Watched TV. Looked for jobs. Walked outside. Went to the gym.

I worked out alot… walking to the gym, walking home from the gym so I could save the gas money. watched way too much tv. I took on babysitting my new born niece three days a week. Pretty boring stuff, oh and bugged SO while he was at work all day!

I look for work, plan the wedding, keep up on housework, play with our sweet little American Eskimo, and cook.
No too exciting but being caught up on everything feels great. I was used to being busy 20 hours out of every day everyday of the week. I do feel very unproductive :

- Wedding: October 2010 - Parents' backyard
Watch a lot of TV, go on the internet A LOT, volunteer once or twice a week, cook every meal, and of course stalk Craiglist (and other job boards) obsessively, apply for anything that looks OK. I write a lot of cover letters. I need a hobby though! Good luck to everyone on the job search! It’s a very difficult and trying time – stay strong!

Ugh…it’s been 5 months for me…I’m going insane! I spend most of the day stalking all the job boards, spending waaay too much time on WB, cleaning and cooking. I miss adult conversation!!!!! I’m going to start looking into animal shelters to volunteer at next week if I don’t hear from the couple of promising positions I applied for this week. It would be great if I could get the motivation to start working out, but that doesn’t seem to be happening. 🙂
So sorry all you other girls are in this position! Hope you all find awesome jobs soon!

I am going on 2 months without a job, and I am SO bored. I need to get a hobby but I haven’t come up with anything yet. Usually I search for jobs in the morning, and clean the house in the afternoon. I really hope we all get something soon 🙂

My husband has been unemployed for 6 months now. Being a 2009 Elementary Education graduate, I’m substitute teaching because finding a full time job in our economy is not happening. Some weeks are busy with call ins. Other weeks (like this one) I wonder if the phone has broken. How do we do it without going insane or killing each other? A few things.
We read. The library is a love, and we go on “dates” there. They have a little coffee shop and we can browse, borrow books and read. Sometimes they have fun free programs that we sit in on.
We volunteer with our church. Hey, it’s good for the community, we meet a lot of new friends AND it looks good on the resume as an added bonus.
Make cards/write letters. I love making cards and writing letters, and I’m part of a group called Soldiers Angels (http://www.soldiersangels.org) that supports our troops by doing just that.
I cook/plan each meal. I’m actualy doing Weight Watchers, because when we do actually get jobs and all we’d like to start a family–and getting as healthy as I can for that time is a good idea.
Hubby has an interview tomorrow. Cross your fingers!

@aandmklover: Good luck! I hope you get the job!
@Bride109: Aw, keeping my fingers crossed for him.
I do try to stay busy with cleaning, reading, and working out. But as Sundrop said, you can only do some of these things for so long.
J’s mother is going to buy us Zumba for Wii so I’ll definitely use all of this free time to get a great work out. Sitting around the house being bored makes me “hungry” all of the time.
Unfortunately, J is laid off as well, but he’s working on getting his unemployment. I’m stressed about him not finding a job or getting a call back from his boss. He’s a plumber, but still in school to get his license. He told me last night that he feels bad for everything. We had things going really good for us until he was laid off and my job search is hitting dead ends here and there.
I’m really counting on this job interview to call me back with good news. I’m going to be so nervous when they call back with the news because I don’t want to be told I’m not getting the job. >.< But I put in more applications today and I’m going to call the one place and follow up on it because I know someone who was just hired there.
Sorry for the rambling! Everything just is “perfect timing” these days.
