I've been looking too! I'll be checking back to see what awesome ideas the Hive comes up with. =)
My inspiration was a round cardbox that looked like a record.. found right here on WB in the DIY section.
Totally fit our theme and decor!
Here's the official cardbox.... The inspiration had another title/lyric on it, but this one fit b/c it's well known amongst our friends =)
We took four picture frames and put them together to make a box. The whole thing sat on a lazy susan.
I don't know if you have ever watched Dr. Who on BBC America, but for my cardbox, I want to design it as the TARDIS, which is what the Doctor travels in. Basically it's a blue police box. FI and I have enlisted our best man and his girlfriend to help us with this as we aren't sure how to do it yet.
here is what one gal had at her wedding:

I've had brides use those old school wicker fishing baskets, picnic baskets, those foam pumpkins, glass pumpkins, vintage lunchboxes, vintage suitcases, guitar/violin/sax instrument cases, old school breadboxes and old speakers/amps that have been emptied out and a slot cut in top.
Tons of fun stuff out there!
@calico61979: That's the one I was telling you about the other day ;) I've pretty much decided I don't have time, but should i find myself in a crafts store this week... FI may still be getting this as a surprise!
We have a slight UP theme running through our wedding, and we decided to use a white mailbox (FI cut a slit in the top of it and screwed the flap part shut, so nothing gets taken) and we're going to hand paint our names on the sides and our handprints, just like the mailbox Ellie and Carl make in UP. =D
@thewheelsonthebus: yeah, i figured it was what you were talking about. I don't want that light blue color for the police box, though, so it will need to be darker. I also doubt I will use felt, but we are going to figure something out. I will definitely show you the finished product since you are a fellow Whovian.
@calico61979: Yeah, that one's not 'Tardis Blue' :) (I'm trying to find FI some Tardis Blue Boxers, heehee).
Well I'm not sure if your FI would be able to make this, but I got a glass engraved card box that I plan to use to display things in after the wedding. This isn't the site I bought it off of, but it's the same thing.

@thewheelsonthebus: maybe i will help you find those! I am more of a fan of Dr. Who then FI, but he likes it a lot and appreciates the geek that I am!
Depending on how many cards you need room for, the Tardis Talking Cookie Box might work. It is 11x6x6"

I looked at the DIY section on the bee and I am in love with this:

@zperez: I have the website for these cages. I bought them and they come 2 for 24.00
@julies1949: we did contemplate this, but I am just not sure if it will be big enough.
@julies1949: I love that the boxers say "bigger on the inside." that is awesome!

Hi chicks!
FI is getting the task of building the box for our wine box ceremony and I figured he might go ahead and build our card box too... but that got me thinking about unique card boxes. I've seen birdcages, I've seen boxes that look like wedding cakes, and I just saw a real mailbox being used as a card box, but I want more! Show me your ideas, inspirations, real boxes you used, etc. I need some visuals!
Thanks :)
