Sweet Child of Mine by Guns N Roses. ![]()
The lyrics are cute though.
She's got a smile that it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything
Was as fresh as the bright blue sky
Now and then when I see her face
She takes me away to that special place
And if I'd stare too long
I'd probably break down and cry
Sweet child o' mine
Sweet love of mine
She's got eyes of the bluest skies
As if they thought of rain
I hate to look into those eyes
And see an ounce of pain
Her hair reminds me of a warm safe place
Where as a child I'd hide
And pray for the thunder
And the rain
To quietly pass me by
Sweet child o' mine
Sweet love of mine
Where do we go
Where do we go now
Where do we go
Sweet child o' mine

I seriously considered Sweet Child of Mine! But, oh, the guitar solos. No idea how one would actually dance to that song. :D
I'm thinking of some version of "Me and My Shadow". My mom always used to sing that around the house if you were following someone around eagerly. It was most frequently used with the ...eh hem... dog (she was a very hungry dog...) but it would also be used if you were following someone around because you knew they were going to do something special for you (like give you a present or good news or something like that). Anyway, there's a fun and upbeat version with Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis, Jr.
Sheryl Crowe actually does a cool version of Sweet Child O' Mine that is without the guitar solos
i was going to use kind and generous by natalie merchant. i thought that would be a nice way to thank my stepfather for everything he has done for me (including the wedding!)
I danced with my dad to "Way You Look Tonight" by Frank Sinatra. Sentimental enough, but with a boppy beat so it's not too tragic! It got a lot of "aaaaahs" when we started.
Then my husband and his mom joined in half-way through the song.
I take it that most people are having a DJ? We are having a little jazz combo with a torch singer for part of the evening and a two-girl duo for part of the evening. So we are sort of picking any song we want, and they can do it in any style (punch it up a little, slow it down). They are super talented, and have come up with really unique and fun arrangements for some of the standards (mostly in response to my comment that I hate this or that song as it is so overdone). If you have musicians, I would encourage you to try that!
We danced to In my life by the Beatles
<pre class="lc">There are places I'll rememberBut of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
In my life I love you more

Daughters by John Mayer...
I wasn't sold at first, but it really outlines our relationship in a way I didn't expect.
@Kamy7181: BUtterfly kisses (this is a beautiful song that tells of a fathers' gratefulness for his daughter birth, childhood, teenage, adult, and marriage)
It is beautiful, you will cry when you see the video, but most importantly when you hear the words. I remember parts of the lyrics
There are two things I know for sure you were sent from heaven and your daddy's little girl...
There is an awesome acoustic version of Sweet Child 'o mine which is incredible! I think I'm using it for my dance.

We are thinking about Wide Open Spaces by the Dixie Chicks.

I'm not super sentimental and I don't really like the conventional songs that are used for the father/daughter dances. Does anyone have any other suggestions???
