We went to Ireland last year, loved it, and are now going back in Feb and I am looking for recommendations.
Here are the things we already did/saw: Dublin and majority of the main attractions, the Cliffs of Moher, Galway, Kinsale, Blarney Castle, and Cork. In particular, we loved Kinsale because it gave us more of that sweet small town atmosphere were looking for, so recommenditons similar to that would be great.
Were there any unique places you stumbled upon while in Ireland that would be a must see? Oh and we are going back to South Ireland, no desire to really go to Northern Ireland. Thanks!

There is a sweet little castle in Cahir where you can explore all by yourself- dungeons, upstairs rooms, turrets, everything. It’s awesome. I’d also highly reccomend the Skellig’s in the south and The Connemarra region (Leenaun) northwest of Galway. There is an amazing drive from Westport to Keel (Achill island). The lady who ran our B&B reccommended it. Breathtaking view at the end of the road- best part of our 2 week trip. We went to Kinsale too and Westport has the small town atmosphere you speak of. We also really enjoyed the Waterford area.

We LOVED the two days we spent in Kilkenny, also a small town feel. Kilkenny Castle was great, and we also visited Dunmore Cave nearby. Killarney was also fun, but a bit more congested.

@Aqualov: Thanks! Someone else recomendend Achill Island to me too, so it’s good to hear that you loved it as well. And thanks for the tip on Westport too!
@OldMrsMcDonald: Thanks! We were going to go to Kilkenny the first go around, but switched to Galway instead, so good to hear that it was one of your favorites b/c we will more then likely go there this time.

I actually student taught in Ireland and we’re heading there for our honeymoon. If you can visit, the Aran Islands are just so gorgeous. Hardly anyone lives there, and the island I was on the longest had 1 road and 1 cop for the three islands.

I’m revamping this thread to see if anyone has any additional specific must-sees/ great pub recommendations, as we have finally narrowed down our list. We will be going to:
– Westport (taking the drive from Westport to Achill Island, thanks for that rec!)
– Galway (although already seen the Spanish Arch & the bay)
– Killarney/ Ring of Kerry
Thanks for the suggestions thus far!

@AnnieAAA: ah love ur new list! Ring of kerry is spectacular, and adare is cute as a button!
If you have a spare day and the weather holds up (which is unlikely, its been awful here since christmas!) theres an amazing horse trekking company in lisdoonvara through the burren i would highly recommend. They were one of the top attractions on trip advisor. Fi said it was his favourite part of his 2 week visit (and it poured rain during our entire trek and we went all over ireland, and to london, so thats saying something!)
heres hoping for some nice weather for ur trip! (And for the sake of my poor little tree which is looking rather naked lately!)

@dv3849: Thank you! When we went last time the weather was AMAZING! We went in off season as well (March) and it was sunny and in the 50s/60s every single day! The locals kept saying that we weren’t experiencing the real Ireland, haha!
We leave next week, and are fully expecting rainy weather, but that’s okay, all part of the experience, right? lol!
Since you live in Ireland, has it been snowing? I keep checking various parts that we’re visiting and see that there was “chances of snow” – which is fine, I just hope it’s not a blanket of snow!

@AnnieAAA: I think the snow is the least of your concerns lol the gale force winds, widespread flooding, power outages and hail are a bit more menacing right now. this is by far the worst weather ive experienced since i moved here 3 years ago. I dont think ive seen the sun since november…
On the topic of snow in ireland though, one of my facebook friends posted this photo and complained about having to “drive through the snow” earlier this week… Im a Canadian girl, so it gave me a good chuckle lol
