I know someone who had the reception at City Hall. And I've been trying to think of other places. Maybe a loft or the Thaxton.
Check with Mrs. Argyle. I can't remember what her venue is called, but it's gorgeous.
Mad Art Gallery is very different but cool!
We are going with Villa Marie Winery right outside of St. Louis in Maryville, IL
We considered Schlafly's Tap Room, but it's too small :( We're using the Polish Hertiage Center instead. Not really unusual, just not many people have heard of it.
Mrs. Argyle's reception was at Windows on Washington wasn't it? I think her ceremony was a the Jewel Box in Forest Park
Mrs. Argyle had hers at the Jewel Box and one of the WOW- I can't remember if it's Windows ON or OFF Washington :)
We're having ours at Wine Country Gardens in Defiance.
There's also Chandler Hill... which is gorgeous and I really wanted it, but it just didn't have enough space if it were to rain and we had to cram everyone indoors.
I really like the contemporary art museum downtown- it's very modern with steel and concrete walls and floors. Very downtown/loft like, but I'm not what the capacity is, and I think the information they sent me made it seem like they had a lot of restrictions. I would love to hear of more unique St. Louis wedding venue ideas as well!
Our ceremony is going to be in the garden at Nims Mansion. As for the reception, who knows. The City Museum is a really neat place too.
We're having our reception at Third Degree Glass Factory (near the Delmar Loop)...it's different, pretty cool too!
@deenikkij: I went to a wedding and reception at Third Degree--it turned out really neat! I think you will be really pleased with it :-).
We used the Roberts Orpheum Theatre! It was gorgeous and very photogenic.

@zippylef: Zippy- I totally ooooh'd and aww'd at your photo recaps and they totally got me looking into both those venues. I LOVE the theatre and location is just what I was looking for. AND you did a heck of an amazing job staying in your budget!!!! Sadly though, when I contacted the Orpheum theatre the rental fee alone was $5,500!!! How on earth did you pull this off and stay in your budget?! (if you don't mind me asking!)
@zippylef: These photos are fantastic! I adore the Orpheum (and have so many memories from when it was the American & had lots of concerts) - but i think I'm with caselynn...it's sadly out of my buget.
@bmarie12: We got it for free, actually. By some stroke of incredible luck, they decided to install air-walls on the mezzanine of the Mayfair 4 weeks before my wedding. It was under heavy construction (like, missing a ceiling construction). We were supposed to use the mezzanine, so to make up for the inconvenience they offered me use of the Orpheum, since they are both owned by the Roberts brothers. I think it all worked out far better than the original plan anyway.
As for the Mayfair, we didn't pay rental fees for it either. We did our initial consultation with a banquet coordinator who was about to quit, so she made us a ridiculously sweet deal and because it was already in contract form they were forced to honor it.
We are getting married at the Magic Chef Mansion. It is one of the only places in St. Louis that I don't no someone who has gotten married there. It is beautiful!
@onyx81: My cousin told me about the Magic Chef Mansion today. I looked it up online and it is absolutely GORGEOUS. Unfortunately, I have a terrible phobia of dead/stuffed animals and there are way too many hanging around for my comfort.
@zippylef: I am so jealous at your good luck!! But your pictures are beautiful! I love that theater.
We are having our reception at Sqwires Annex. Its a really unique loft-feel venue, but it is a little small, holds 100-150 people. The coordinator, Bethany, has been absolutely wonderful to work with and I would highly recommend her. They can take care of nearly everything in house (catering, flowers, decorations, etc).
@onyx81: initially looked at the magic chef mansion when we were searching for vendors. It's sucha unique venue. We ended up going in a different direction, but so jealous of how pretty your pictures will turn out as the magic mansion as your background.
