My brother just became engaged and I'm looking for ideas for a unique (creative too maybe) engagement gift for him and his fiance.  I'm not looking for the traditional picture frame, vase, candlestick gifts that are typically given (and what I received when I was engaged), but something a little more unique.

Their personalities are really easy going and laid back.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in Advance!

Friends are getting married in a old Jewish temple that is under renovation.  I'm making a dontion in their honor to the building fund.  Maybe a charitable donation to something they believe in?

Other ideas...  gifts off their registry (if they have one yet), for her a baby picture of your brother, a gift certificate (for a couples massage, dinner out, movie, theater tickets, etc.), a weekend getaway, an edible arrangement (they are so delicious), an engagement photo session...

I had a customized cake topper made for my own wedding that I think would make for a neat gift.  I bought it off of ebay for $90 including shipping.  If you would like me to send you pics, just email me at tyeung612@yahoo.com and I'll send you some pics of how mine came out.

This might be a little too traditional for your tastes, but what about a nice bottle of wine or champagne?

What about something for their (future?) house like a framed copy of something by their favorite artist or photographer? Is there a piece of art that is special to them?

Different scenario, but I got FI a model of Brancusi's sculpture "The Kiss" for an engagement present (I get a ring, so I figured he should get something too), and he loves it and we can't wait to display it in our house together.

Someone suggested on another post a really neat idea.  If they are into wine, you create a box of firsts.  Each bottle is tagged: first house, first dinner party, first anniversary, first christmas... you get the point.  (maybe sparkling cider for first child?)  I thought that was a neat sentimental idea and a wonderful illustration of the life they will have together. I am sure you could do this with other things too, but wine tends to keep and you can vary the bottle and costs.

Oh, I like Jenningsblue's idea! If you do that, go to a wine store where they can help you choose wines that will age well.

Maybe you can do something related to how they got engaged. For example, we got engaged by a fountain downtown... you could do a picture of the fountain and frame it, or put it on top of a box for them to put stuff in (not explaining well, hopefully you follow).

Also, what about a ring holder?

Thank you for all the great ideas!  I think I'm going to go in the Wine gift direction.

    Thanks!

I am so happy to hear that.  I wish I could remember what post someone contributed that to so they could get proper credit.  I have definitely stored that idea away and I am just waiting for someone I know to get married- other than me, of course!

When my best friend got engaged right after college I was so excited for them.  I wanted them to cherish the feeling of being engaged.  Time is so elusive and fleeting.  It is all over before you know it.  So as a gift I gave them a time capsule.

    http://www.amazon.com/Wedding-Time-Capsule-Gift-Engagement/dp/B0000E6NLD

It comes in a canister that can be sealed for 10, 25 etc years.

Includes: Our original design decorated with antique wedding photographs. 22-piece kit includes What Life Was Like the Year We Were Married profile, how-to guide, Letter to the Future® stationery set with matching envelopes, certificate, archival stickers and more.

It was fun.  The put the top movies, music, books, news items of the year they became engaged.

    Good luck!
