if you like the idea of a beach wedding, then i think someplace like Florida would be amazing!
we re getting married in St. pete florida, we looked into orlando but i didnt want a disney wedding. His family is from England and mine is from NY and we met in florida. It was easly to plan and i cant wait!
We're getting married in Anna Maria Island, FL... the beaches are beautiful!
We're only about two hours away but we're getting married in Charleston. It has TONS of options that are beautiful and romantic. We picked a gazebo in a park for the ceremony and a restaurant for the reception.
New England had some awesome places depending on the time of year. Cape Cod, Martha's vineyard, and Nantuck are all great choices. I got engaged on the Cape and consider a second home as my mother was born there and that's where my parents met.
We're getting married in the Carmel/Monterey area in California. There's a lot of great areas of California that would be a ton of fun to travel to - Carmel, Santa Barbara, Napa & Sonoma, etc. We also looked at New England - either a B&B type place we could have to ourselves or an off-season ski lodge (though there's a lot of larger hotels that do package deals as well) and at the Florida Keys. Savannah, GA would also be gorgeous, I think.
We got married in Savannah GA at The Gastonian, which is a B&B. We absolutely loved it.
I second Charleston!! SOOO many options...and it is pretty rare to get married in a banquet hall around here! too many historical houses, parks and of course the beach to get married at! The plantations are stunning to get married at also.
I third the Charleston recommendation! It is romantic, beautiful, and there are so many unique venues. I love it there.
We're getting married outside near the harbor in mid-coast Maine.
The leaves will JUST be changing and it is a beautiful New England destination.
I'm having mine in Savannah, GA. I've never lived there, neither has my family or his. We just really love the feel of the town...so in my mind its a destination wedding because everyone has to travel!
My BFF is having hers in Asheville, NC.
We got married in the Florida Keys (Tavernier, not Key West). It was at a small resort (www.coconutpalminn.com) that holds about 40-45 guests; we took over the whole resort for the entire weekend. (For smaller weddings, there are also many smaller resorts and even private beach homes available for rent.)
You can see some pics here - post #3 (plus there are links to more pics in post #5 on that threat):

If you need any more info on the Keys, let me know! I researched a ton, and have strong recommendations for a caterer/wedding planner.
NORTH CAROLINA BEACHES/ OUTERBANKS are AAAA MMMAZZING! :)
I'm getting married in Charleston so obviously I'm on the Charleston train :) A Disney wedding would be amazing though!
We got married at a gorgeous vineyard just outside of Sonoma, CA! The great part about getting married in wine country is there are tons of people that will essentially put everything together for you which was great for me because it took all the stress out of it.
We are getting married in Beaver Creek Colorado!!! It couldn't be more perfect! And Yes 100% affordable by far!!

We are getting married on the beach (toes in the sand
) in Long Branch NJ at Ocean Place Resort & Spa. http://www.oceanplace.com/ We having about 25 guest. Dinner will be served on a wonderful ocean front covered balcony. I can not wait :-)
I don't know if you're just trying to keep it on the mainland for passport reasons or for closeness, but Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands are both technically "United States," so you don't need a passport, and depending on where you're flying from, flights aren't bad. I agree that an October wedding in Georgia or one of the Carolinas would be beautiful. There are so many amazing places, find one that has some meaning to you and go for it!
We're getting married in the Adirondacks (upstate NY), on a lake in the mountains. I'm ridiculously excited, because it's beautiful and also meaningful to us.
I went to a wedding in St. Michael's MD, it was beautiful! Here are some pics

Thanks for sharing some photos ladies. Still trying to decide what is the right route to go at this point. You all have great suggestions that we haven't considered.
@daydream: Talk about gorgeous!!! That is seriously beautiful. Do they set all of that up for you? Is there a package available?
@CDubyaToCJay: Another beautiful place. Does this resort offer a destination wedding package?
@Miss OBG: One of the main reasons we're looking for something local is really so that our immediate family members can be with us on our big day. If we start to pick anything that requires a long plane ride or more of an expense it'll just be a lot harder to make that happen. We are also on a budget as well, another reason we prefer something local.
@magilnyc: Thank you for sharing your photos that is very beautiful!
I've seen some beautiful pictures of weddings on small cliff like shores in San Diego!
Yep, they set the chairs up for you, but if you want an arch like that you would have to go through a local florist. They have different packages available. The hotel that it's through:
If you're interested in more info. feel free to message me with your email address & I can forward you some of the info. packets that the catering manager sent to me.
I chose a stateside destination wedding for similar reasons...It still offers a gorgeous setting, yet is still affordable for guests. They can even drive if they want & save money on a plane ticket & stay as little or as long as they'd like/can afford.

My FI and I are looking to get married in a romantic and beautiful place. We've ruled out a church since we're of different religions and a banquet hall doesn't seem to be the ideal background. So we've also thought about a Disney destination wedding, and found a relatively affordable package option. Just wondering if you lovely brides can think of any other awesome destinations right here in the U.S. great for a destination wedding!
