I know we light our candles using the outer two, but how are you having the mothers or whoever you are having light them get them lit. I don’t think matchs or lighters will look good, but am not sure how it should be done?
how are you having it done?

hmmm good question! For some reason I had in my head that their candle would be lit as they walk down the aisle… but is that impracticle? Our aisle is really really short..

Our mothers are going up to light the family ones at the beginning of the ceremony – the priest said there will be a small bowl with matches and another one with water.
The bowl holding the matches hides them from everyone, and the water is to put the match in to put it out as he says blowing is not very nice! So after they light them they will drop the match in the water to extinguish it – quick and easy!

we had a candle lit at the alter, our mothers used taper candles, lit them with the already lit candle and lit their own candle next to the unity candle. when we came up we used those same taper candles lit them using our respective mothers candles, then lit the unity together.
i posted pictures on a similar thread the other day – maybe the pictures will help explain better.
Pretty way to light the Unity Candles?

We are having an outside ceremony therefore lighting candles will probably not be a good idea for us especially on a breezy day in April. So we have decided to go with the sand in the vase alternative and me and Fiance are just mixing the sand, symbolizing the union of two lives and two hearts as one.
