- Wedding: August 2013
We’re having a wonderful gypsy jazz band for our reception, because my fiance and I met swing dancing, so having some authentic hot jazz for the party portion was incredibly important to us.
The trick now is finding a ceremony musician that will feel different enough. We’ve opted not to havet he band play the ceremony and cocktail hour so people don’t burn out on the instrumentation. I’m realy leaning heavily towards just using recorded music to inject a little variety, but it would be so lovely to have live musicians for the most important part of the wedding!
The question is… what kind? A woodwind group? That feels a little much for cocktail hour, though. I’m looking at a trumpet, violin, and cello trio as well, with a killer repetoir, but I don’t want guests to burn out on strings either. I’m not the hugest harp fan (in wedding context – there are times when I love harp, don’t get me wrong! It’s a gorgeous instrument!). I’d really love a choir for the ceremony, but not for the cocktail hour…
Basically I need some suggestions! I want somethign that will cover ceremony and cocktail, have variety, and be different enough from the gypsy to keep guests entertained. Should I just try and find a speak system and make an ipod playlist?
