peihan17 - hahah i laughed when he asked us if we had gotten our wedding rings yet - because if we hadn't yet, he wanted to make sure we came back to his store for them. yeah right!!!
I wanted an estate piece- I love the vintage look and didn't want FI to pay for something to be custom made when we could find it if we looked hard enough. I also was not heartset on a diamond- which didn't come into fashion as an engagement stone until DeBeers launched an add campaign to make it so in the 1900s- and preferred sapphires (which symbolize truth, sincerity, and faithfullness). Well, we hit the jackpot at Bostonian Jewelers (in Boston of course). The ring is about 75 years old and was part of the estate of a jeweler who never finished it. My FI chose a white sapphire as the center stone (He was afraid a blue stone wouldn't look enough like an engagement ring) and the setting includes blue sapphires and diamonds in platinum. We went back later and they custom made a wedding band to match.
My ring is also semi-unusual. It is a Gelin Abaci tension setting. The metal is also a bit unusual, rose gold. It is just quirky enough, my FH knows me very well :)
The ring below is not my ring but it is close and it is one of the rings we looked at.
My ring does not have the diamonds clustered on either side nad the band has milgrain running down both edges instead of just one, with a detail that makes it look like the ends of a grosgrain ribbon about halfway down. It also has diamond chips inside the ribbon detail. The stone is also about 1 1/2 carats larger.
Now I just need to find a wedding band to fit flush against it, but that can be worn alone. With the larger stone a traditional band willl not fit cleanly agianst the band. (I garden and cook a lot and don't want to wear my e-ring all the time but I do want to be able to wear my band with it. I also do not want to wear my e-ring on my rt hand.)
jennytyum: Good Lord, that is rude! Did he at least tell you why he felt so strongly about it? My goodess, I can't imagine what I would have done if someone had said that to me!

Mine has a white diamond in the middle and two blue diamonds on the side! I love it an was totally surpirsed and so impressed because he put put the ring together himself!
My ring was designed by Todd Reed (www.toddreed.com), who works with recycled gold and raw (uncut) as well as traditional cut diamonds. I really liked the sort of industrial feel of his pieces. Mr.GV and I had a really hard time finding something we both liked, and TR's stuff was the only jewelry we've really ever agreed upon! I took one of his designs and asked for the raw diamonds to be as varied as possible, and also add one princess-cut diamond for a little sparkle. The picture doesn't really show how many colors there are, but they're different shades of red, green, gray, yellow, brown - depending on the light they can look very muted or very colorful, but the 18K yellow gold always sort of glows. It's funny because I've always gravitated to silver and more white metals, but I really wanted the 18K! Now we're trying to figure out wedding bands... I think I might want to mix it up and get something white. Any ideas? (I would love another Todd Reed ring - esp with a lot of cut diamonds - but I don't think Mr.GV is so into that, aesthetically or financially!)
My fiance picked out a 3 carat pink sapphire with trillion cut diamond side stones. He really wanted to get something that was unique and different. The pink sapphire is actually completely natural, and the color wasn't heat enhanced at all.
What gorgeous rings!! I think mine is unusual...FI wanted it to look antique. He and the jewelry designer based the design on a piece of lace! Here is the somewhat funky-looking computer model. The center stone is an Asscher cut, and the two side stones are VERY unique "old miner's cut" stones from a family heirloom.
I have a sapphire ring, which I love, but we're having our hammered gold wedding bands made by a local artist.
