@MrsWinTraining2014:  Wow, sounds great! I never read your initial post, but you should be very happy about that combined income! I agree, job security with his certification sounds wonderful. Congratulations to you and your FI 🙂

@MrsWinTraining2014:  SO was a welder in the Army.  It’s definitely something he can always come back to in the future, even if he were to try different careers.  Congrats to him!

That’s fantastic news! Glad everything found a way of working out 🙂  Does he definitely have the job, or is he still waiting for the final word?

@MrsWinTraining2014:  I suggest you check out the requirements for welder certification where you live. In Canada it is a 2-3 year program.

A 2 week course may be an employer sponsored course for his job, but it may not qualify him as a welder anywhere else.

I’m not saying that it isn’t a great opportunity for your FI, but it is always good to have the whole picture.

@julies1949:  I agree — a quick google search shows that in the states, an actual welding certification takes 3-4 semesters of class work, so roughly two years full-time.

OP, that’s a whole lot of money to have left over at the end of the month.  I know people who make significantly more than what you’re quoting who would kill to have that much left.  You must stick to a small budget really, really well!

@MrsWinTraining2014:  Congratulations, I hope he gets the job! Will he be working 60 hrs a week?

I’m so pleased to hear that he has an option with less than half the commute!

MrsWinTraining2014:  I’m really sorry to hear that.  Maybe it’s the first location that was hiring?  You should have your FI follow up with the original person he spoke with to see if he could start at that location and transfer once he’s put in his time.
