Take the sick day, what is the big deal?

I say call in sick to the shitty job since you have the days anyway, and focus on the new better opportunity with advancement positions.

If you can swing it financially, I’d quit the shitty job. It sounds like the stress/unfriendly boss is going to bother you when you need to be focusing on your new position.

Here’s the thing I’m worried about: Ok so say you don’t call in sick and let her get her way–she’s obviously bending over backwards to make sure you’re late for your second job and in general punish you for changing your availability.

I really doubt that this one day is the extent of her punishment, whether or not you call in sick.  I have a feeling this arbitrary punishment will be ongoing until she gets bored or you quit.

I’d use the sick day, let the chips fall where they may–she’s forcing your hand, so I wouldn’t even really feel guilty. (Plus you know, its a sick day… you can use those for mental health days too, as far as I know, so.. considering you’re taking the day because she’d drive you insane if you didn’t:  Mental health.)

Have you explained to your boss why you need to leave an hour earlier and why you need this resolved ASAP?  Your boss definitely does not sound very reasonable or understanding.  If they truly do not want to lose you they should be able to bend a bit for you.  Definitely call in sick and let the chips fall where they may..

operaglove :  all the more reason to take the day.  Let them see what it’s like to not have you for a day.

I don’t think people can terminate you if you call in sick. Can’t you sue them for that? You have sick days for a reason.
