I am glad you know what is going on but how will this affect you! When will YOU get the dress?
Im guessing in about a week. He said that China told Mary that it was "printed" today and it will take about 3-5 days to be shipped to Los angeles. So I'm taking it that it will be shipped out today or tomorrow.
All I know is that I wont be okay about this till I have a dress, the right dress, in my posession.
I'm trying to look at the glass half full but I'm starting to think that I'm going to get it and it will be the wrong dress and in a wrong size. I mean common, I ordered it back in January and it wasnt due till april. So it took 3 months for one dress but in a hurry they can do it in a few hours???? Doesnt sound right to me.
I don't think it's still shady, but completely understand why YOU feel that way. I'm guessing the "print out" is the printed pattern for the dress. It seems like the dress shop (at least Bob) and Mary took this very seriously. I know your wedding is getting VERY close, but hold out hope!! I think that it is all going work out well for you. :)
well at least you are getting some answers finally!
i will be waiting for the next installment, and hope that it'll be you telling us all the dress is safely in your hands!
HA! The same thing happened to my sister. She is getting married in Sept but ordered her dress many moons ago. Anyway, my mother demanded for this mess to be fixed IMMEDIATELY and my sister was given (free of charge) ALL of her bridal accessories.
Ask the store owner how he/she pland on rectifying the situation.
Wow. That's outrageous, and I'm so glad it seems that everything will turn out alright. Good luck, and be sure to keep updating us! Hopefully next week you will have a post full of pictures of you in your dress to show us. :)
I hope they plan on compensating you in SOME fashion for all of this heartache!! I mean, at least a glass of champagne to calm your nerves! I'm so, so sorry you've had to go through all of this!
Yay I like Bob :). It sounds like he's being honest with you & I'm so glad he made all those calls, that's what that rude lady SHOULD have done.
I mail things to China (& other countries) for work & the FASTEST USPS can ship internationally is 3-5 days. Depending on the country, sometimes it can take 2 days, but its almost always 3-5. It sounds like they're getting your dress to you ASAP. They are probably dropping all other orders & working on yours #1 priority.
Don't worry about it thou, that will do nothing but drive you crazy for the next few days. Just relax for now, try not to focus on it. When it comes in, try it on at that store & see how it fits & go from there. You can't really do anything about it now, so don't stress about it... its what I've learned (the hard way) but from different circumstances.
I'm not trying to scare you AT ALL but just bringing up some points to make you aware of. What struck me as strange is that Mary's is a fairly old company, I looked it up, the website says they've been in business since 1983. I would be surprised if Mary was still working (and not happily retired) or if Mary still owned the company BUT that doesn't mean she can't still be there it's just something that would pull up scam flags to me. There's a customer service number (281)933-9678 maybe you could call and ask them just to confirm that she is in fact there, that way you know there's not some scam going on. I've read about how some stores do this type of thing (say the dress was ordered when in fact it was not) to ensure that you then have to buy their store samples (which are often in disrepair or have stains or marks on them). Maybe you could ask the "bob" from the store to send some sort of confirmation from Mary's an order confirmation with the original order date, or even the tracking number of the item from LA to their store just something to back all this up. Plus yeah I'd definitely be asking what they're going to do to compensate you.
*fingers crossed*
Here's hoping for good news next week. And did Bob confirm that you are still getting all your alterations for free (like the mean lady promised)?
Cricket, You have a verrrry interesting point. I had no idea that "Marys" Has been in business that long......Thanks for the number! I will DEF. be calling it!
Oh and by the way the Mary's site does say it takes 3-4 months for their dresses to be made once you order it and that rush orders are available so maybe that's how they're getting it to you? Maybe once they realized the error they were able to make it?
My understanding is that it's not that it takes that long to make the dress there's a book I have that explains the whole process of why it takes so long. They put all the fabric on these machines, each machine is set up for certain sizes then the fabric gets cut (maybe this was the "printing" step they were referring to) and then dresses get made but they let the orders stack up on top of each other and only make a certain amount of each size at a time because the cutting is done by these laser machines and I guess there's some sort of cost break by waiting to do them in big bunches like that so it takes longer. I'm explaining it from memory so I really just sound like Dr. Evil but it was interesting reading about . . . anyway you get the point!
Crossing my fingers and wishing for success! I do echo the others in that imho, they should compensate you for the dress stress. Like as if brides need one more thing to stress about anyway!
Hugs.
I'm glad you were able to get some information.
I'd call Bob or Mary's and ask them to provide you with tracking information for the package in which your dress is being shipped. If you're told the dress is being shipped using anything other than a courier (like FedEx or USPS) ask them to upgrade - they screwed up BIG TIME and the least they can do is make the process as transparent as possible.
Actually most apparel goods today are manufactured in China. That's how they can make them at fractions of the cost. When an item is "printed" it means that the fabric has been cut into the pieces needed to make the dress. They will still need to sew the dress together, which should take them about a day. (It's really fast, even for intricate designs.) After that they will package and wrap it and ship it (another day). Then you can expect (even if they overnight the item) 5 days for LA to receive the item because it must pass through several customs inspections. So you're looking at a week for LA to receive the dress from "printing" if the Chinese company is handwalking your dress through the process due to their error. Then another day or two to get it from LA. At ten days, you should see your dress April 25th, and the dress shop should rush-order your alterations free of charge. I have no doubt you'll have your dress by May 22nd, but DANG they are cutting it close and I would be totally freaking out if I were you as well!! I think that both your dress shop and the dressmaker were very active in finding your order, and you are lucky that Bob took the initiative to sort it all out for you. Good luck!
I'm sorry you are having problems. I agree with MightySapphire that a ton of apparel is made in China and other East Asian countries (blame the cheap labor). I hope that it comes in soon!
Wishing the best for you and for the dress! Keep us updated.
They've probably stopped production on other dresses in order to do yours. Typically dress companies cut dresses on certain days. For instance, style A is cut on Monday, B the next day, C, etc.... so that all of the dresses are cut in a certain order. This allows them to make the dresses quickly and more efficiently, overall saving time and money. Since yours is a special rush, it'll be walked from station to station, with 1 person overseeing everything. This means that any mistakes are far less likely to happen as it will be inspected after each step. That's a good thing for you.
Mary's is a very reputable company, known for creating intricate dresses with lots of detail work. They typically do a very good job.
I'm sorry this happened, but it does look like they are working hard to get this resolved...at least Bob is.
I worked at a bridal shop for a few years as a sales consultant which is how I know this. As much as possible, don't stress. It sucks that this happened and that your wedding is so soon, but it'll be worked out. Tell me they are doing some sort of comp for you though.
Most dresses are made in China. Don't worry -- that does NOT make it shady!
My next question, if I were you, would be how the designer and salon are going to compensate you for the mistake - discount, free veil, free alterations, SOMETHING is owed to you!
are they offering any kind of compensation for what happened? Even if it wasn't "their fault" they do need to take the responsibility for it.
JUST FYI ~ I searched Mary's Bridal on the Better Business Bureau and they have a rating of an A.
So let's just hope that this honestly was some freak mistake and your dress will be arriving any time now :)
Keep us updated!!!!
Ashley :)
@agierman That's a great idea maybe the OP should look up her Bridal shop in the Better Business Burea it would be a way to confirm nothing shady is going on.
Please post this on ur original post lots of bees looking for this update!
UPDATE Ladies!: I'm sorry to say that I haven't heard anything yet from the bridal store. I was a complete wreck all weekend! I'm hopeing that I will at least know something by wednesday. But dont worry Bees, I will let you all know as SOON as I know something!!!!!!!!!!
From the timeline I'm guessing they won't get the dress in until next Sunday, so try not to hyperventilate if you don't see it before then, k? Also, when you go in I would DEFINITELY ask them to comp you on alterations or accessories or something!
I'm so glad they figured out what's going on. Like Mighty said though, don't stress if it doesn't reach you by mid-week. It can take some time just to get through customs. Here's hoping that it doesn't get held up.
Not to stress you out but have you heard from them yet?
Good luck! We can't wait for your next update when you get to tell us all that it worked out and you've got your dress inhand :-)

So I did it and called the bridal store at 2:30. I get a man this time that speaks with me. Lets call him Bob. The rude lady that I delt with yesterday decided to not come in to work today. (I have a feeling she wanted to hide from my issue). Luckly the man I delt with was sooo much nicer and had all the details for me. Pretty much the lady from yesterday pushed this off on him to deal with and this is what I found out:
My dress is from a Marys Bridal. Apparently that is the desginer. She is based out of texas but her dresses are made in China. Bob calls Marys bridal corp. in Texas and doesnt get a straight answer so he said after about making 8 different calls he demands to talk to the actual 'Mary'. Bob talks to Mary and she says that her company did send the order off to China. So she calls china and they tell her that they got the order but never made the dress. They made the dress order before mine and the dress order after mine but not my dress. (Why meee?!?!?!?!) Then she goes to tell him that China had just notified her that they "printed" my dress today (whatever that means???) and it has to be shipped to Los Angeles for customs then overnighted here to the bridal store.
Bob was a very nice man but continued to tell me that their store nor Marys has ever in there careers had anything like this happen. Out of the thousands of brides come through their doors my dress was the biggest mess up. Not feeling good about this.
Ok Im happy I kinda know whats going on....but still very nervous that this aint the end of all this. Why is it still shady??????
