I would not use any products that make your hair silkier (aka less able to hold a curl). No serums, oils, leave in conditioner. For your curls to have the best chance of holding, I would use mousse and/or thickening spray when damp, blow dry to 95% dry, then sleep in soft rollers!

EDubbs:  Here is what I do(because I can’t handle my hair feeling gross) and it works well each time so far… Wash your hair the night before at about 5 p.m. do not do anything with it- just let it dry naturally over night. By doing this your hair is still clean feeling/ looking but “dirty enough” for the curl to hold

EDubbs:  I also had that same style done with my hair for my 8th grade formal and be prepared if you don’t have extensions– it does not look the same at all lol

Just wash and blow dry and don’t put any products in it

EDubbs:  dont wash your hair and dont put product in it. Dirty hair will hold a better curl and if you put mousse you risk getting that white flaky residue

I wouldn’t either.  If you really feel like you need them the day before, just wash your hair before you go to bed (that is what my hair salon said to do anyways).  My hair gets oily really fast, so at my trial my hair stylist told me to wash my hair in the morning of my wedding, as she was able to “dirty” enough with products.  Pretty sure some of my bridesmaids washed their hair that morning too and everyone’s hair stayed.

I feel disgusting if I don’t wash my hair everyday so I asked my hair person if it was ok to wash before doing my hair for the wedding. She actually said she prefers working with clean hair so win-win!

However, if your person wants dirty hair then yes I would leave all products out. However, if you have stuff that works well on your hair then you could certainly bring them along and see if she wants to use them.

Side note: do not use a straightener the day before if you are not planning on washing your hair before your updo. The straightener will make it harder for your hair to hold the curl.

If you are going to wash your hair the night/day before, use a thickening mousse. It wool help your hair hold the curls

EDubbs:  scratch what I last said. If she’s using a straightener to curl your hair don’t use mousse either. It makes it harder for the straightener to run over your hair and may cause dents in the curls.

EDubbs:  For my updo I was told to wash the night before and blow dry with mousse.  I think it really depends on your hair.

Ask your stylist at your trial. My best friend was told to shower and blow dry morning of. FSIL was told ‘clean hair’. Another was told day old.
