Because it seems like every “help! I have long hair!” poster doesn’t have hair as long as mine… 🙂 My hair isn’t extremely thick, but it is very long – just past my waist. I pretty much never, ever wear updos because they’re heavy and I don’t think they suit my face. However, since I will be wearing a kimono for my Shinto-style ceremony, I will need an updo to keep all of my hair from obscuring the beautiful embroidery.
Yet, we also want something that doesn’t hide the fact that I have a lot of hair!
So, does anyone have any pictures or ideas for updos that take advantage of very long hair? I would especially love to see ones with face-framing bangs, hanging curls, and the like. I have found only one or two like this, so I would love to see your pics!

I have super super super long hair (past my knees) I create a bun with some loose pieces of hair to frame my face (curled) and then have the leftover hair curled and on one shoulder (to one side).
Also, for most updos that are fully up – my neck would probably die lol
And for the kind of loose half up half down styles, the weight of my hair is too heavy to really stay up.
But I have done some cute styles braided (a really loose french braid that continues so that there is volume past my neck (sorry hard to explain) it basically creates a long loose weave and I tucked the end under.
I had my hair done once for prom (when it was to my knees) by a stylist that specialized in long hair and she found a way to place my hair on my head (different strands looped onto create a full back) and then curls with the leftover hair.
Hope it helps. I would try some braided styles.
