Given the choice/if you and your Fiance were in a different financial situation say, 5 or 10 years down the road, would you upgrade your center stone or setting? I’m just curious what other’s thoughts are on this!

We’ve discussed it and will probably upgrade in 5-10 years. We’re both okay with it and he actually wants to more than I do. Mine is currently a 1.02 carat center stone.

I wouldn’t. I have a 0.52 carat stone, and I love the way it looks and the setting. I tried on a few 1+ carat stones while shopping for rings, and didn’t like them that much.

In 5 or 10 years I might. I don’t wear much for jewelery or accessories so we probably won’t even think about it after we get married though.

I think I’m lucky. She’s rather slender (4.25 ring size), so anything bigger than the 2.3 carat center would overlap her finger.

Nope! I love the stone I have now. I’d prefer it if he just bought me a nice piece of jewelry 🙂

I don’t think so. I don’t want to change my ring at all after we get married.

We haven’t really talked about upgrading, but for some reason Fiance got this idea in his head that he is supposed to buy me another diamond ring on our 5 year anniversary… I was really shocked when he said this, but I pretended to act cool about it. Lol…I was like….Riiiiight, our 5 year anniversary…hahaha
Ill probably tell him that its not necessary way before that anyways lol…maybe. 😀

Mine’s 0.70 carats, and while I originally thought I might like to upgrade some day to a full carat, I’ve gotten really used to the way it looks on my finger and I love the proportion. So I don’t think I’ll upgrade. Besides, he was killing himself to find me a “big enough” diamond (his thoughts, not mine), and he shopped around and bargained and saved up to get me this one. So I feel like he’d be offended if I didn’t seem content with this.

we’ve talked about it, and if we have so much money we don’t know what to do with it I’d get my dream Harry Winston stunner and save this ring for one of our kids to use….but we wouldn’t upgrade by changing my current ring.

Well he wants to upgrade it NOW and it’s only been 3 months. He wants it to have better clarity. I said do what you want as long as it’s the same size or bigger! 😉
If we were to upgrade I probably wouldn’t want more than 2 carats. Mine is 1.17 and it’s already getting in my way.

We’ve already been out of school for a few years, so I can’t really imagine our financial situation changing enough to be feel comfortable upgrading my ring. If anything, now was the best time to get the best ring we could since we just bought a house which we want to do a lot of work with, and will be having children soon so we’ll probably be spending that money wiser from here on out.

I upgraded mine about a year after we got engaged… we chose the first ring together but had difficulty finding something perfect in the stores & purchased something that I liked but didn’t love & I have a horrible habit of being completely indecisive. The new ring is very different to the original (had it custom made retaining some of the original stones) & I’m so happy with it now 🙂 I don’t think I’ll ever change it again! Before & after pics attached, too

I wouldn’t upgrade mine, I love it the way it is

Yes I would upgrade mine. The center stone was inherited, and not the cut or size I would have liked. When it is financially feasible, I want to pick out my center stone.
