okay, this is gonna sound like kind of a stupid question...

but all the pictures I've seen of uplighting have been in neon colors, so I'm wondering.....

does Uplighting come in plain/natural/white light?

I don't especially want colored lights for our reception, but I don't really want to use the overhead florescents in the ballroom either - or pay a fortune for lighting! Our DJ is offering free uplighting with the package we just booked, and I was wondering if it's totally ridiculous for me to want to use plain white lights for uplighting.

They also have a disco ball, which makes me ridiculously happy. (I know, I'm like twelve years old on the inside.) hehe...

You absolutely can!  If they are non-LED lights then the "neon color" is really just a gel (piece of colored plastic) that sits in a frame on top of the light.  It would be very easy to removed that and have plain white light.  However, you may want to inquire about a gel that adds just a bit of warmth to the light, a light amber color perhaps.  This would be a little more flattering on peoples skin, would look better for pics and when actually projected on a wall will look more like "natural" light.

I'm no lighting expert by any means, but I worked on lighting for my high schools theater dept way back when.  I'm not really familiar with LED uplighting, but I believe those can be programmed to be any color of the rainbow.
