Hi everyone, I bought a beautiful gown from karen willis holmes in Australia and one of the things I loved about it was that it was boned very heavily all the way down to past my butt, which gave me a great shape. I originally came with a corset back but I wanted buttons, and the seamstress assurred me that buttons would give just as nice a look as a corset, if done correctly. I had my first fitting where they use a temporary corset to get the right fit and then mark where the buttons need to go. She also marked the hemline. When she was doing the hem I questioned whether it was too short but she assurred me once again that once it’s cut it will actually sit lower due to the way she folded over the material.
In between my first and second fitting I have lost a bit of weight, probably 1-2kg but it’s not too much so I didn’t perceive a huge drama with the dress. Well, I had my second (and what was supposed to be final) fitting and I’m so upset about it. To begin with, the hem is about an inch of the floor when I wanted it very slightly off the floor – my shoes are high so I can always change them but I love my shoes 🙁 One of my friends got married, and her dress was beautiful, but what I remember most about it was that the hemline was too high and it looked really unusal – I don’t want people remembering that about my dress. I know there is nothing to be done about the hemline now but it still makes me very upset!! The seamstress said she’ll steam the dress before the final fitting which will lower the dress but I’m not expecting much difference. But the most upsetting part is that the fit of the dress is so bad now. It is not tight at all!! It doesn’t give me that lovely shape I wanted. The seamstress has pinned it and is taking it in but I’m still not convinced that it will give me the nice hourglass figure that it did previously. I’m just really worried that it will look crappy on and that I won’t be happy on the wedding day. Sorry I don’t have a photo, it was only me at the fitting so had no one to take it!
Any words of advice would be much appreciated!!
