a few months ago I booked a reservation online for a hotel. I remember getting a message saying I had until the day before to cancel the reservation – i had used my CC to hold the rooms etc…. I now need to cancel that reservation and I called the hotel. They cannot find my name in their system at all. I have looked through 3 months of emails and trash emails and cannot find it. I know I booked it online. I just dont want to be charged for 2 hotels…. since the hotel themself cannot find the reservation did it not go through? im so frustrated and dont know what to do. I cannot find the email with a confirmation code and cant remember what website i used to book it 🙁

julies1949: this is the only hotel in the entire city or state with that name. Im sure its the correct one. I remember reading a message saying I Had until the day before to cancel but cannot find any email confirmation or anything. the hotel looked and cannot find my name in their system. They said even if it were booked through a 3rd party website it would come to their computars.

MrsRuby: First, are you certain you remember the name of the hotel correctly? It wouldn’t be the first time someone thought they had a reservation at one hotel when in fact it was at another.
If you are certain, can you email the hotel ? “I am sending this email to confirm my conversation of today’s date with your reservation department wherein I was told that I do not have a reservation at your hotel for the night of March 8, 2014. I request an immediate confirmation for my records.” That should be sufficient for you to dispute any charges that appear on your cc.

MrsRuby: is it possible you put the reservation under another name? Your fiancé’s last name, your parents, his parents, etc?
Maybe you can look back at your credit card or bank statement and see if they put a verification charge (e.g. $1) on the card to make sure it was a legitimate account number provided.
