Have a read of this. It’s about the differences between US and UK society.
I have only one correction to make: gay marriage has not been legal for ages, as the article states. Same sex civil partnership, which confers the same legal benefits as marriage (with a few minor exceptions… for example, the civil partner of a Lord is not a Lord, and has no title, but the wife of a Lord automatically becomes a Lady), has been legal for absolutely AGES, and was passed with pretty much zero fuss. Religious blessings for same sex partnerships have also been reasonably common since the 80s. However, gay marriage was only recently legalised, and religious groups fought heavily against it.
Apart from that though… what do you think?
