We just got married on 10/5 (yay!!!! anxiety and illness were all kept at bay for us both on the actual day of the wedding, so it was a great day). We’re delaying a honeymoon until my fiance feels healthy enough to travel. In the meantime, we’re trying to come up with ideas for what to do for an eventual honeymoon and so far we’re coming up empty. We want to stay within US / Canada so that we don’t have to deal with insanely long flights and the stress of traveling abroad.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Hubby isn’t really into sitting at the beach for a week, but other outdoorsy things are open.

Hi @ks224: First and foremost I see you are fairly NEW on WBee… so a BIG Welcome to “the Hive”
Obvious Questions first…
1- When are you thinking of Honeymooning (Month or Time of Year)
2- How long (do I understand that you have a week ?)
3- What kind of Budget will you have to spend ?
4- And what sorts of stuff do you guys enjoy doing togther on vacation… (Camping – Hiking – Fishing – Skiing – Sightseeing – History – Geography – Arts – Culture – Food – Wine – Sun – Beach – Watersports etc)
5- And do you have a preferred method of travel… Car / Road Trip – Bus – Train – Ship – Plane ?
The more info you give us, the more we can come up with ideas for you

What about a trip to Northern California (Napa) filled with wine tours?

If the government freaking starts up again, I think a Yosemite/San Francisco trip would be awesome (but i’m biased 😉 ). Or maybe some other national park if it isn’t too cold by the time you want to go? There is always snuggling up at a ski resort if you guys are into that – Aspen or Tahoe?

I vote for a road trip up the west coast.

Have you considered Arizona? Do Sedona, and then go up to the Grand Canyon for a few days… Even during the winter, these places are awesome (and not too crazy since it’s the off-season for tourists.)
Also look into the Berkshires, Massachussettes.

@This Time Round: we don’t have a time-frame right now since it’ll largely depends on what happens with my husband’s (wow that still sounds weird, I’ve been so used to saying fiance haha!) health. my guess is we’d probably want to do something in fall or winter. We live in Ohio, I’m originally from NJ and he’s originally from San Francisco.
My guess is it would probably be for a week (though more would be nice if we could swing it with accrued vacation time). We have several grand left over from our wedding budget (+ some money that we received as wedding presents). We’ve never really gone away on a vacation together before beyond going to visit our families. We’re not big drinkers so while a day trip to a winery somewhere might be nice, we wouldn’t want to spend our whole trip doing vineyard tours. We like being outdoors. I love taking nature photography and hiking. He loves to ski – I’ve never been skiing before so I’m not sure if I’d fall and break my face, but I certainly love snow 😛 We love to try new foods. We also love watching sports. We love fall weather and seeing vibrant colors as the leaves change. Sightseeing would be good, we like art museums but wouldn’t want to spend the whole trip doing nothing but museums. Ideally we’d want to have “options” wherever we go, I think, so that we get a varied experience. While we’d like to go to Italy together someday, we’d like to save that for some other time. As for preferred transportation method, we had previously talked about doing a roadtrip, but we’re open to flying.
He’s much more traveled than I am, as he did a cross-country roadtrip with his dad when he moved from CA to OH (and he also lived in Europe for awhile). I, on the other hand, am mostly familiar with mid-Atlantic East coast, so there’s lots I haven’t seen 🙂
